Actually,

This is my first drill press. I JUST bought a Daytona DF16C (year 2000, 16 speed, floor type, 5/8 chuck...you know, the red one). (Hopefully the picture will post). I was ecstatic to buy it in a local high school auction for $50.

However, I got it home and turned it on; the chuck has a noticeable wobble in it. The shaft looks perfectly fine. It's just when you get passed the visible threads JUST above the chuck, is where the problem begins. I have NO idea where to start..... I've searched "google" for a manual with absolutely no luck.

I sure would appreciate any information, or a manual, that anyone would be able to supply me. This looks like a ROCK SOLID drill press and I "know" it can be fixed; anything can!

edit: if you look REALLY close, you can actually see the bend in the chuck that starts JUST above the black band. I'd really like to clean this thing up and have it running like a top.....or like a really good drill press. lol!

Nice drill press ya got there, do you have a drift to knock the chuck
out with ? some chucks are bolted to the tapered shank and some are
pressed in, may just be out of alinement someway.

I'd remove the chuck and see if it's bent, no expert here. Welcome.

You need what's known as a Drift Key to remove the Drill Chuck. There is a slot on the drill shaft that the Drift Key fits into. Once you slide the Key into the slot, you can either quickly raise the shaft by the the handles or use a hammer to drive the key into the slot breaking the taper lock. Locate a new Chuck and you are in business.

Do a Web search for drill press Drift key and you can see what one looks like. Simple to make if need be. Good luck

Well, I can guess where the bent arbor came from, judging by the big ding on the left side of the belt guard.

You need a tapered wedge to drop the arbor out of the spindle. Move the spindle down and turn the spindle by hand so the slots line up. Then you can see the top of the arbor. It might even come out if you stick a chisel in there and rap on that downwards. lock the quill in place. Hopeful the arbor took the brunt of it.

Get the arbor into a vise, and get the chuck off of the arbor. You should be able to find a new/used arbor pretty easy. If I had to guess, it's probably an M2 taper, but that is just a wag. Don't even try to straighten the arbor, the odds of making it right again are slim and none.
