Hello from small town MN, It took me 50 years before I opened up an engine, I thought it was going to be a hopeless mess, but I did it, I rebuilt a 95 Quad 4. I enjoyed working on it so I figured I should get the right equipment, So I picked up a 4 ton engine hoist $100.00 a motor stand 40 bucks, most recently a Souix Valve Grinder Model 655. AS I sit with my Quad 4 torn down again, it needs a valve job, hence the valve grinder. Well it is the valve grinder that is next to be used but I need the Stone dressing attachment. Now I was told the is one for the 620, 645, 650 where it is not listed the piece does fit the 655, but there is a $134.00 price tag on the attachment. If any one knows where I can get a stone dressing attachment that has a reasonable price on it, please let me know. Now I am new to this posting on a forum so if you reply be patient. I have to say the 655 is a wet grinder, and it's built like a tank. My Brother said I should disassemble it and clean the bearings and clean the felt spacers. I do not want to break it, yet I don't want to spin bearing doing the Quad 4 head. I also need a user manual for it, Snap on said I could use the most recent manual to get the gist of operating a valve grinder. If some one has a manual or knows where i can get one please reply. Sparky's cousin

The diamond dresser holder is not a complex part or an all that precise part, you could fab one up that will work fine.
What you need is a little bit of thick steel and some basic tools like a welder and drill press. The important thing is that it is made to be rigid and then bolted down securly so you get a good true dressing on the stone

Good piece of advice, before you work the head have your local machine shop pressure test it.I have pressure tested many that were cracked, the crack in the valve pockets and across the top. Will take a pic shortly of stone dresser and try to get it posted for you.

Thank you, So the object is to get a diamond holding bolt and fabricate a jig that holds the diamond extremely tight when it is up against the stone. The position it is locked down is arbitrary, once you bolt it tight, with it just touching the stone, 90 degrees to the center of the wheel. I can do this, Thank you.

What do you think about going through the bearings before I start using it. I have loaded the oil pockets several times. Over the years have you ever heard of a bearings going out. Will just adding oil to the bearings keep them from burning out. As I look at the Grinding head It looks impossible to take it apart, any ideas?
