I'm new with the Garage Journal, so "Hello" to all.

I have a couple of questions about a tool. I have a Craftsman vise bearing the number 5162. It's a retro looking thing, 57 lbs, 4" jaws, opens very wide, has a swivel base, and was originally painted a light gray. The opening handle goes through a dome (for lack of a better term) on the front of the vise, and that entire assembly rotates.

I inherited it from my deceased father in law, and my wife is thrilled I've put it to use. I bolted it to a White wood-working bench. And in case anyone asks if it's for sale, it's not...my wife would be sad, and that's never a good thing. Plus, I'm kinda liking the big, ugly thing, plus a free old boat anchor of a Craftsman tool is always a good thing!

I would appreciate any information anyone might have about the vise's manufacturer, possible date range of manufacture, price when new, and a guesstimate as to its current value.

A lot of us have old vises but not many people have one that is an heirloom. Very cool.

If you post a pic, I'm sure you will learn everything you want to know.

I'll get a pic posted in a couple of days. Thanks for the interest.

I found it in the gj vise thread...post 1513...please take a look and let me know what you think. Also, mine is in great shape...only needs a new paint job. Everything is there and after a squirt of light on the bolt threads and slide, one finger moves it.
