Hello all! They wanted me to introduce myself, so here I am. A wife who is trying desperately to help her husband come up with some garage plans. We have been saving for about 5 years to pay for this garage...you think we'd have plans drawn up by now. We have scoured the internet forever (seriously, at least 2 years) trying to find a garage we think will work best for us. As soon as I think we have a good design, my father-in-law tells me all the reasons I shouldn't use that design. He usually has legitimate reasons and that is why I ask for his advice. His advice always seems to be great, but usually pricey. (If you're going to do it, do it right.) If we keep up at this rate, the garage will definitely be worth more than our house. I have come to this site countless times wondering if I should register. Well, here I am. I will be reading and looking through forums to get some ideas. We were thinking a 40x60 garage. It sounds like 40x64 is a better idea.
Things we know we need:
-3 or 4 car garage in front with an RV garage entrance on the side. Stored in the garage will be- 1 daily driver, 1 restored vehicle, and at least 1 constant project, most likely on lift.
-simple living quarters upstairs for the monthly visit from in-laws when they work on their rental properties and future grandkids
-wood shop (FIL is selling his workshop to have money for retirement and we are happy to have him donate his wood shop equipment to our garage.
.
-covered area (porch/carport) on back of garage for storage of lawnmowers, snow blowers, toys, etc
You're all going to wish they hadn't asked for an introduction. You get the whole story in my first post....typical of a woman, right?!
Any and all suggestions are welcome!
