Hi, i am in need of an impact wrench but want to make sure i get the right size given my compressor. i have a line on an ingersoll rand 2100g impact for a good price. it shows at normal use needing 5 cfm and at max 25 cfm. my compressor is a few year old home depot husky 60 gal tank, 10+ scfm at 90 psi.

the IR 2100 has 550 reverse torque. if i were to buy something like this, would my compressor give me the full use of the wrench's torque?

tx. in advance.

Yes, because it works with the air from the tank. Question ist just for how long your impct would run with full power, untill the compressor kicks in. But this is hypothetical, because normally one uses an impact not constantly.

It'll work perfectly, for a short time, until your tank empties and your compressor can't keep up.

Either you buy a bigger compressor, or you could add some extra air storage capacity by plumbing in another reservoir, or you only use the rattle gun for shortish bursts at full power.

I used an old LPG fuel tank for mine, just connect it in with a hose and it doubled my storage size.

Air hose size is important too, as you'll probably need a bigger size than your compressor came with. 25cfm probably requires a 1/2" bore hose.

you'll be fine with what you have... Use at least 3/8" hose and shoot some airtool or marvel mystery oil in it before each use and it will twist 1/2" wheel studs off so be careful not to hammer it too hard. You've got PLENTY of tank

I have a 25 gallon 150 psi 5.8 cfm compressor on 120v. I can use my 24 cfm impact for about 40 secs full bore before it drops below 90 psi. I don't know any time you'd hammer that long, if it hasn't come off in 15 secs or so it probably isn't going to budge.

I would bet you could hammer for 2-3 mins before dropping below 90 psi.

I have this compressor, I just brought home my IR 2135TIMAX Ti-Max home to do a timing belt Wednesday, and it worked real well.
As stated, I did not need to run it for a long time. My little 3/8" Earthquake gun worked well too.
It was a 94 ******.
Did you know a new tensioner came with the new water pump?
Thanks,
Tony

60 gallons is 3x what I have right now. Yet, my impacts run fine off my 19 gal tank. Then again, I don't use my impact gun all day long so my compressor doesn't have to run a lot.

I saw a air usage chart on a TSC compressor today...several applications listed, but the short & skinny of it:

Low Air Req. = Air nailers
Med. Air Usage = Impacts
High Volume = D/A Auto Body Sanders

You will be fine with your 60 gal. tank.

Perfect. Thanks. The impact is an IR 2100G for $70, new in the box.

I appreciate the help. I didn't want to make the deal if it wasn't going to work. I do need to look at my air hose and make sure it is the correct size.

Thanks again.
