I've been a member of the Fordbarn and HAMB - always heard about the GarageJournal so I thought I'd come and check it out.

I built my garage about 2 years ago for my hot rod habit, after moving about 4 blocks to the house I'm in now. I was unable to build a separate structure where I lived so I moved in order to do so. I used an 84 Lumber 26x30 kit but modified it using 2x6 contruction and tall, 12' walls to accomodate a lift (if I ever get one) with my collar ties being at 13'9" off the floor.

Big change was the moving of the garage doors to the long side and to one side, leaving a 10x26' shop area. From that area I made a whole second floor above this area for an office/man cave. Across the back 30' wall I designed and had a "catwalk" built that's 4' deep with grey shelving to house all my parts. Most of this second floor was built with leftover materials from the kit save for a few 2x4s and some plywood flooring.

It's still a work in progress but I know I'll be inspired to finish it when I start looking at what everyone else has done.

Pictures are coming as I'm at work now.

Welcome to GJ, Tom. We have many HAMBers hanging out here too. Sounds like you are on the right path towards a great build. You know what you want and are building it.

Good Luckon your shop.
