Newer HF Two Stage 60 Gallon

I've searched through some older threads on this compressor. Has anyone purchased one recently? Any comments?

Some pics from when I visited the local store about a month ago.

I've done enough research that it seems like it is actually a decent unit. Copy of the BelAire 216V I believe (same manufacturer).

Picked up a 93274 last month for my dad, we got it wired and plumbed and it works very well. I don't believe the newer 62299 is actually a two stage unit.

The made in Italy pump is on the 93274, so the one you took pictures of is the one to get.

Thanks. Any plans to do anything with the intake to help with the noise? I don't expect an air compressor to be quiet, so just curious if you think this on is overly noisy?

I know the split/V compressors are supposed to be more quite than the parallel cylinder pumps. Those are more common in the 1100+ price range it looks like. Maybe they just use better intake muffling?

Also, I didn't know if there have been any major changes to the HF unit over the years. Seems like the Italy pump has been used for a while, but possible the motors have changed manufacturers.

We set his up in a large utility closet, and he surrounded it with sound absorbing mats and will be putting in a foam insulated door to massively reduce the noise. The closet has ventilation to outside, so overheating shouldn't be an issue.

The new ones appear to be the same build quality (less the Mexico sourced motor) as the Us General (US Motor) that I purchased several years ago. Not a single complaint about the unit for the price of it.

I recommend swapping the oil as soon as you break it in.



As for the noise, I don't even notice the compressor, maybe it has to do with the air needler in my hand

I'll probably go take another look at it. This was the floor model, not sure what they have in stock.

I have an IR single stage twin 3 HP (purchased new about 15 years ago) that I've never been too impressed with. I think I am asking for a little too much out of it, but it produces a lot of moisture and has a hard time keeping up with certain tools.

I actually have been looking close at the Quincy, but for my somewhat spurious home use, it is probably overkill.

FWIW, the 93274 pushes lots of air, but even it can't keep up completely with an air-hungry grinder ($10 HF special, dunno about nicer ones). It'll run one for about 10-15 minutes before it drops below optimal pressure, so I'm thinking the grinder under load uses about 20 cfm @ 90psi (compressor is rated for 15.8). Still way better than the 10-15 seconds that it ran on a smaller one.

Sadly, to get something that pushes over 20cfm is at least a couple grand new.

You could always buy a second HF air compressor.

I have the 3 cylinder 62299 and my tools have yet to outrun it. Die grinder, impact, needle scaler ,da sander. I love this compressor.
