I sublet an alignment today to a shop I have used with no issues. Customer called me 30 minutes after picking up her car and said one hub cap was missing. I called the shop to see if they forgot to install it. They told me there was no need to remove the hub cap to align the front end. They are full wheel covers on a 00 Camry than cover the wheel lip. It has been 16 Years since I last used a Hunter machine and the one I used needed the covers to be off. Has this changed? Not blaming any one but I need to know.

You can slip the teeth between the tire and the rim, no need to remove the cap in most cases. The front end guys at my shop do it that way all the time. They might have dislodged the cap if they weren't careful though...

even if they are covering the lip, you can normally just put the targets on top of them. It will just bend the hubcap a little bit and go down to the wheel lip.

The newest Hunter alignment machine, the Hawkeye Elite does not need to have the hubcaps removed, that is correct.

Most OE hubcaps can stay on and the heads will install over them. its usually just the aftermarket cheap brittle junky ones that stick out too much.
