Next little resto, nothing fancy HDP125

well i picked up my next little resto project, nothing crazy, just a Delta Homecraft 11-120 drill press. its in pretty rough shape.

maybe original motor ??? but looks like toast

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, here are a few pics

nothing fancy just a simple resto

the drill press parts itself is done, debadged,ran through electrolysis, wire wheeled, primed and painted already

still need to polish up the column,

just received the 2nd knurled nut, in the mail, have to wire wheel that piece

motor gonna take a bit of work,

there was aton of old mud dauber nest in the housing of the motor, got most of it cleaned out.

wiring was shot, so i jerry-rigged it, just to see if the motor would run or not, and ill be darn ran smooth and quiet as can be.

but i wont be able to mount the motor back on the motor frame because all of the rubber motor mounts all completely shot and turned to goo. so ill have to improvise something for that.

if i get the chance to tomorrow, ill try and post some pics.

here a few before and after pics, and some pics of the motor tear down

i removed the badge from the head and guard (aka helmet) before electrolysis and painting

i used wire to plug the holes before i painted

All the pieces are still taped up


Motor tear down pics

I was able to get the nameplate off the housing by punching it out from the back

endbell from the wire side of the motor, outside and inside, as you can see just under the tag, there a oil hole cap to lubricate the sleeve bearing

These pics are from each endbell that are yarn packed to lubicate the sleeve bearing with oil

fins are in ok shape

centrifugal switch looks ok

armature in ok shape


i forgot to take a picture of what the inside looked like with all the mud dauber nest, here a pics of someone else's motor i found on the net, this is basically what mine looked like before the clean up

Here are two pics of after the quick cleanup, gonna clean up some more when i get the chance

alittle progress well sort of

well just incase i have issue coming up with a suitable replacement motor mounts on the jack & heintz.

i picked up what i belive is NOS Dunlap motor as a fallback, paid $65 for it, might be touch high but, i kid you not this motor is in pristine condition, not even a mark on the shaft, the cord is still wrapped like from the factory and it came with papers

The press is turning out very nice.
And that motor find was very cool. That thing is cherry.
But the Jack and heintz 1/3 hp capacitor start motor may have a little more torque than the 1/4 hp split phase.
Either way is a win for light duty drilling.

thanks a bunch folks, just wish there was more hours in the day, to have some time to work on it more, if i could just squeeze out abt 6 more hours in a day, that would help

yea i think the backup motor was a good p/u, but still wanna try get jack & heintz restored back to its glory days (atleast somewhat close)
