I picked up some of this paint thinner the other day at Lowes thinking I would save a couple bucks and be “green” at the same time. Big mistake, this stuff is nothing like paint thinner. I was going to use it to clean up some greasy parts and while it did dissolve some of the crud it just didn’t have the solvent action of mineral spirits. I tried to find a MSDS on it to find out what’s in it but couldn’t find anything. It almost seems like it is kerosene based because it leaves an oily film and takes forever to evaporate. I think kerosene or diesel would actually do a better job. I can’t imagine using this stuff to clean a paint brush.

I support being green, but my experience is that nothing 'green" works as good as the non-green products. Especially products like paint thinner, cleaners, etc.

I use that stuff, but it is useless as a thinner.

Anyway, I'm, usually using xylene, naphtha, or acetone as a thinner, depending on the temperature and how active I want it.

This stuff is kind of milky, and takes forever to dry. I'd say it is even less volatile than kerosene, but it is kind of good at cleaning brushes from oil based paint, and cleaning wet oil based paint off your skin.

Expensive water at that. Looks like their degreaser has about the same amount of water as well.

I think we in CA better start stocking up on any petrol-based organic thinners. I'm surprised we can buy MEK, acetone, xylene, etc. still. Oh, and mineral spirits, about 7-8/gal now. I use gasoline.
