NG Heater Mounting Height ?

Per code or insurance regs (State Farm for us), are there any regulations on how high a NG wall heater like the one linked below should be?

Also, would you recommend adding ducting/venting with such a unit?

Hi Quicksilver,

I just bought that exact same heater at Menards here in IL (just outside of Chicago) for 128.00 on sale. I think the sale goes through 12/10. Not sure where you are located but it might be worth looking into to save you a few clams. Also, I bought, and would reccomend the optional blower. It was only 30 bucks, mounts inside the heater with a few very minor mods and has its own thermostat for on/off. I have a pretty decent sized 3 car garage with insulation (drywall to come this weekend) and after about 30 mins or so, its warm enough for thin sweat-shirt work. Hope you can find it for the same price I just did!

I am told that any open flame heaters have to be at least 18" off the ground.

Mine will be 9'

Something to consider is that moisture is a natural bi-product of combustion that will start to rust tools, exposed metal on projects, etc. Vented outside in a vented model - trapped inside in a ventless model.

I'd also be concerned about CO. I know it says that it has a detection system but better safe than dead.

Whatever you get, I'd say to mount it up close to the ceiling out of the way where you, wife, kids, etc. won't get burned. It also won't get wet up there.
