Does anybody know where I can get some nice 4' t8 light fixtures? I would like something other than the plain white, want to spruce up the garage a bit.

I would also consider recessed fluorescent lights if the price was right.

You don't want recessed, shades too much of the light out the sides. Same with the lights with solid sided shades, all the light has to go straight down instead of out, you end up using twice as many fixtures to get the same light output.
At a minimum you want a light that has a shade such that the light bounces off the ceiling.

Yes, I like things bright.

I think it's unlikely that a garage will have to much light. I have five 2 X 4 T8 recessed fixtures in the ceiling and and 10 can lights in other locations. I will have four 8' strips switched separately for track lighting. Garage is 24' x 26'.

With all of the lights on I would say it's well lite, but certainly not to bright. I wanted to use high output T5s for the recessed lights but they generate to much heat so I had to use the T8s

Well, my garage is 22x24, and I was planning on putting in 9 4' 2 bulb fixtures. Yes, I like things bright.

I put up 56 bulbs worth of 4' T8 in mostly surface mount fixtures w/ electronic ballasts, I really like them. Had to go with 4 bulb rather than tandem fixtures above the door for clearance reasons. Very bright in a 24x36.

8 footers are more expensive to replace bulbs, in my experience the bulbs and ballasts don't last as long, and you can't fit them in the damn car when you need them.

I got some really nice t-8 fixtures from a school reno. They are 10 year old 2-bulb fixtures have nice mirrored reflectors and came complete with plastic covers and used bulbs.
I paid $200 for 42 fixtures. I used 18 in my 28x28 Check with contractors and maintenence companies that do work for school boards and office buildings

If these trip your trigger let me know and i'll get the specs on them. i ordered them online, they were pretty cheap for T-8's. Cloud style shades lift off easy to change bulbs of dump out dead bugs.

I'll get the brand/model numbers off the lights tonight...forgot all about it last night. I have one I didn't use so it will be easy to do. I just remember getting them for under $30 each on Ebay but don't remember if it was a stock item or dealer closeout or just some guy with extras.

I bought some 4 foot two bulb T8 fixtures with a cage over the bulbs for less than $30 each at Lowes. Home Despot has them too.
