I had a few questions with regards to Swing open Garage doors. I think some call them Carriage house doors. Has anyone attempted to make them themselves? I have some basic woodworking skills and would like to try it but I'm pretty realistic about the time it takes.
Or..is there a nice affordable option that anyone knows of?

I see you are on the East Coast. Any snow in your area? If so, I would not want swing out doors unless you shovel in front of them to keep them cleaned out? A few of the overhead rollups are designed to look like carriage doors and from a distance you can't really tell the difference.

We do get some snow. I don't really mind clearing out a few times a year. I'm more concerned with the space inside that the overhead doors take up. I'd like to have more easy access to the attic/storage space inside.

I have a budy who wants to make a set.....especially after he got a quote of $8000 for a carriage door for his garage.....

The wood is the easy part...it's the hardware that seems to be the problem. We are trying to find it now....if you come across anything please post it.

I am on the east coast as well and the swing out into the snow killed that option for me. My plan now is to do a pair of sliding carriage house doors that are on the inside of the wall, just like I have seen on several barns around here. The twist I plan to add is a power operator and the ability to dis-engage and slide one door independently so I can use it as a man door and limit the opening to contain heat and AC.
