Was at the local Home Depot and saw this nice Ridgid 2.5g compressor for only $49. It has aluminum tanks, and is solid but lightweight. This was in North Hollywood, CA - I saw about 4 more there.

Looks like a neat compressor for those smaller jobs... air brush, nailing, inflating. And for $49??? I've spent $49 on much stupider stuff...

My local HD only had the 5 gallon version. HD website doesn't even show the 2.5 gallon model. :(

After finding out the SKU# was (670-549), I called the closest HD and low and behold, they had 3 in stock. :D. They were not in display, so, key is to check their inventory by SKU as they were not able to find them via make/model.

Brian,
I took your advice and the SKU and called some stores near me. First store confirmed that was the correct SKU and told me the price was $49 but they were out of them. Second store tells me they have 7 on hand. I hopped in my truck and headed there. I didn't find them on display so I got someone to help me. Guy looks it up in the computer again and says "Yep, 2.5 gallon compressor. We show 7 on hand". As he and I begin looking in the aisle the "manager" approaches and asks what we're looking for. Before I could finish describing it, the manager tells me "We don't have those". His own employee pointed out that the computer showed 7 on hand. Manager tells him "That's a bad number. We looked for them the other day. They're not here". I asked if he could check other stores. He kind of hesitated and said "Well I already checked nobody has them". I can read people pretty well. I firmly believe all 7 of these things are in that store. He is either holding them aside for employees or doesn't want to sell them until the promo price is over and he can charge full price. I left extremely pissed off. Needless to say as soon as I got home I fired off an email to corporate customer service. I'll see what they have to say. I really wanted this thing.

I called 4 Home Depot stores and none of them had it in stock; they said it was a clearance item and they are no longer carrying the item ... :(

Bummer! :( Have your friend or family member (pref. female) go there and check. I bet it's placed up high with other items. Also, if you want, I can take a picture of the SKU # on the box itself. LMK.

On these "hot" deals I try to avoid calling first. Often times the employees aren't even aware of the price, but the phone call alerts them and all of a sudden they can't find the items when you get there. But if the store's far away, maybe a call is the best approach. Decisions, decisions...

I got a response from Home Depot today via email. They apologized for my unsatisfaction and are sending me a $40 gift card for my trouble. I guess it was worth complaining but I sure could have used that thing for $49. If anyone else finds them, I'd be happy to pay shipping for one to NY. I'd still be way ahead of the game.

is there a quantity alloted to each store, and when they are gone they aren't getting any more?

Went to local HD's. They listed them as clearance and all sold out.
Nice gift idea tho.
Just didn't work out.

Do they give out "Rain-checks"? If so, just wait until they are back in stock and purchase one then.

Local store in Orange, CA, I stopped in last night and its clearance none in stock at any local store. Clearance means not getting any more, "most" of the time.
