So at the beginning of December I ordered the PWCS7CF stripper crimper pliers because they were on sale and I've been eyeballing them for 2 years.

They were out of stock at the time so I've waited for them to be sent since then. Today they arrived and I was excited. Opened the envelope and this **** fell out.

Machined with 6 slots on one arm, 5 on the other. biggest opening is off, next 2 smaller look okay at best, 2 smallest are cutters instead of strippers.

WTF? I have quite a few SO tools, including pliers and none have even the smallest quality control issues.

Of course I'm calling them tomorrow and I'm sure they wont give me a hassle about exchange because they're cool like that but I needed to vent because anyone with eyeballs at the factory would have noticed this ****.

EDIT: Well I called SO this morning and told the nice lady the problem and she said they'll send out a new pair and to just throw away the old ones. This is the 5th time I've dealt with their customer service and every time it's been wonderful.

Didn't they change the guages that they stripped? Maybe got an older half mated to newer half...try to sell it on Ebay for thousands!

No no don't send it back, that's the wire stripper you lend out just to screw with people who borrow. :lol: tell them they're left hand strippers and watch them headscratch.

And then there was my TM936 bit ratchet that was missing the magnet to hold in the bits. Looks like they discontinued the ratchet. Fortunately I got them to send me a rebuild kit.

Is it just my poor eyesight or the bottom piece (with the warning sign) has the cutting edge on the wrong side. Shouldn't the sharp cutting edge be on the warning side of the surface?

Does it matter? They're two different halves to 2 different designs of wire stripper/crimpers.

The ratchet is still listed just updated to a new part number. It's now a TM72 and TM72SET

Regardless whether the top piece is the right piece or not, the bottom piece should have the sharp cutting edge on the warning side surface.

That's disappointing. Must have been made on a Friday! Glad I bought the earlier ones :p! I once had a 1/4 in extension I bought not make it 5 mins off the truck before the detent ball literally crumbled when I put a socket on it. Luckily he was still outside and I got another. Some of me just ain't gon hunt!

Well at least you didn't pay a lot of money for them:evil: Ahh that *****, but it does happen to everybody. How the company fixes the problem is what makes them good or bad. At least you'll get to warrant the extra money you paid by using their no hassle warranty

Both halves have the same angle and bevel. I don't know if I'm describing it right but the pliers look exactly the same from either side except for the engraving. Aside from the 6/5 slot issue of course.

Are you talking about the high voltage warning? That's for the pliers because they aren't electrically insulated, not for the cutting edge.

When I bought my SO 3/8 metric socket set, the 9mm socket had a square drive instead of a hex! :headscrat Luckily I was still on the truck when I noticed it.

Yeah. Is no good. There shouldn't be an issue replacing them or possibly repairing them (if the joint is just off a tad). These look real nice though otherwise.

Those may have never been touched by human hands. With today's automated assembly lines some products only get a random sampling.

it's almost like people think tools come from space or something? i've worked as a maintenance mechanic in manufacturing for close to 5 years now and the first thing you notice is that **** gets by QC.. quality control checks are done during batch runs at regular intervals in hopes of catching defects and problems. problems aren't always caught before going out. you get ones that slip by and make it through the door and thats what the companies customer support is for, to make that right.


quality control does not mean that of the 10,000 pliers made this week that the guy at the desk looked over and tested 10,000 pliers, he probably did his normal checks once every 75-100 pairs of pliers that came out to ensure that there was nothing wrong with the dies and tooling making the pliers for that batch run.

and it's worse when a jig happens to be a little worn down and something wiggles out of place making a tool like the OP's, because it may only happen once in a while and won't get caught for a bit because it takes 10-15 batches for them to run into the 5 or 6 that didn't sit in the jig/die right.




gimme a break with the "world is ending" scenario about how a tool came to you and wasn't absolutely perfect in every way, we are all human, including the people who make the tools and the ones who program and create the machines that the people run who make the tools. make use of that "godly snapon warranty" and get a new pair and a free hat for complaining

You bought the male strippers that had 5 and 6 holes. Buy the matching female strippers that have 6 and 5 holes. Swap the legs. and have two perfect strippers.
