Looking for a nice full torx set, I work quite a bit (non professionally) on BMW's that are filled with all kinds of torx bolts. Not really looking to spend Snap on money.

OTC has this:

What are some other good options that are reasonably priced?

That looks ok (I haven't used that one), but some german cars will also have some torx plus tamper proof 5 pt one you will also need in addition to that.

Isn't VIM the oem for snap on?

No, they're the OEM for a couple other truck brands. Snap-On makes their own.

For the money, VIM tools are very good. However, torx bits are an area where Snap-On is worth every penny if you'll be using them a lot.

I posted a set of Wiha Torx bit sockets I got cheap from Amazon yesterday. Not a comPlete set like that, but they make them I think.

Koken makes some high quality bits, and nearly half the price. If you are interested, I can give you a quote shipped. Frank

No. Vim makes torx/hex sets for Cornwell. Vim does make several products rebadged by many tool trucks though.
Snap on probably makes the best heavy duty male torx bits. They're not cheap, and they will fail too but, they'll take a lot of torque before failing. Worth the extra money if used daily.
Also consider Gearwrench with VIM. Gearwrench also uses S2 steel. I picked up a smaller set and they're holding up nicely.

I have a sunex set of triple square sockets. I haven't used them a ton, but they seem great so far. A great balance between quality and price. I would assume their torx sets would be similar.

a gearwrench vortex set is pretty reasonable, but it would make sense to me that on a bmw you may need deep torx as well, so you may want to see who has a good set of t8-t40 in long bits

might have a look at this VIM set:

http://www.tooltopia.com/vim-hctsd.aspx

not sure if its as complete as your looking for (22pc, t8-t60 stubby, t8-t50 4"). i wish it had a 4" t55 as i come across that size on brakes occasionally. other than that, they have held up well to non-pro but hard use. they are also security torx (hole in the middle) and the stubbies work on torx plus.

i've got an older set of sk's that are nice, but since you can't get them... :( not sure i'd consider used torx bits though..

Remember for BMW models from about 2001 you need Torx Plus Tamper proof bits for the Airflow meters ( 5 lobes instead of normal torx 6, with a pin )

I throw out Bondhaus quick change bits - you buy the bits and supply your own sockets... I like mine alot. You could also go German for the bits and Etorx sockets - just look for deals on Stahlwille/hazet - they are out there.

I have the OTC kit that the op posted and I definetly do recommend it. Very complete kit that has held up very well.

If you want a good quality set for a good price get Lisle, made in USA

Avoid these at all cost. They are USA made, but are so soft they strip like they are made of cheap aluminum. They also have extremely narrow flutes and do not fit the fasteners well at all. In my set the T25 and T30 are also a different style that is too large for most fasteners, and are pretty much useless.

Re: Napa Hex & Torx Set

i bought a set from napa a couple of years ago when they had the xmas sale on tools , I don't know who makes the napa ones but they have been really good even on the impact gun have not had any problems

Yeah, that looks like a good set. I think they've had similar sets in the REAL DEALS fliers for around 50$ the last few quarters. Every time I try to get one they're on back order. I am pretty sure they are Gearwrench, as are most of NAPAs hand tools these days.

Toptul makes some really nice external Torx sockets. Mike Wren has 14(?) piece sets for around $15. A great deal, and more externals than typically come in a "master set".

I'm not fond of using bits, I prefer regular handles. Although the bits do come in handy for small areas and making a tool kit for a bike.

I agree about the Lisle, some of their stuff isn't all that impressive. A master set would be nice, I got what I need from collecting and actually added a T55 I thought I had but didn't, rare though. I had 3 or 4 sets over the years and some of the absolute best I have ever used were "junk", a set for 14 dollars off the Ace hwd shelf and another Taiwan set I still use someone gave me. Also Hex metric Allen style from Walmart for 13$ or so, always figured to replace them as needed, bought in a pinch, worked superb.

The 5-point bits are not called Torx Plus. They are 'security drivers'. I have the VIM set on my truck now, PN V5PSD.

Torx plus are like the 6-point torx, but the flutes are wider, and don't really come to a point at the outer edges of the tool/fastener.

Anyone have personal experience with the Genius torx sockets recommended by Chadster?

unfortunately no, but my other genius sockets (impact swivels) have held up great. i wouldn't hesitate to give them a shot, especially with chadster's customer history.
