I know there are a few Northern, Il folks on here. What is your opinion of Nicholsons? I have stopped there a couple of times, seemed like a typical independent hardware store. They sell Wright and Proto Hand tools. Prices seemed decent, no bargains, but not excessive.

They are my favorite hardware store. They are only 15 minutes away, most of the employees are knowlegable, (sp) and the selection of hardware is deep. They still stock mostly American made fasteners many of which can be purchased by the pound. The prices are usually competitive with box stores on most items, or of better quality than the giants.
I wish they were open on Sundays and later the rest of the week for those who don't enjoy the second shift lifestyle.

Yea, I found the retool in Rockford this past weekend, picked up a couple nice rachets. Seems like you have to sort through a lot of junk to find the nicer stuff.

Retool is on my list of once a month trips or for tools that I will use for one job only. They are good for when I need extra tools for a job that gets hired out to unemployed friends. Dave will give you 65% back for the tool after you use it if you bring in the reciept. That works if the tool is of questionable usefulness, after the job, to you.
