Hi All,
My fiancee and I recently purchased our first house, and I figured I would show off the garage and the future work that will go into making it a combination wood and metal shop. It's with an addition on the back that houses on one side the 1924 South Bend engine lathe that came with the house (that didn't influence my decision to like the house at all.
) on one side and in the other side the old Craftsman 10" table saw and jig saw that also came with the house.
We're still working on moving in and I have to find spots for my current list of tools. The plan at the moment is to use the room with the lathe as a metal working area, the room with the table saw as a wood working room with cabinets and yet-to-be purchased tools on casters to move them into and out of the way while using them (this is the smallest area in the garage but has a garage door on the side. The main garage will be used as a work shop for assembly of any projects as well as an area to work on my 1966 Jeep Wagoneer and a place for my fiancee to park during the winter (until -read, IF- I can convince her otherwise).
I think using the main garage as an assembly area for projects will keep the saw dust and metal chips down in that area and will make for a good 'clean' room, while the saw dust and metal chips can be contained in their respective rooms in the back.
I am definitely open to suggestions from the more experienced here and am looking forward to getting this project underway so I have a place to unwind after a day at work (manufacturing engineer at a sheet-metal fab shop).
