NiMH Rechargeable Batteries for Green laser level

I find myself constantly buying AA batteries for my laser level. I'm considering using rechargeable batteries. Has anyone used NiMH rechargeable batteries in a laser level? I'm wondering if the laser will draw too much power from the batteries for it to practical. I don't want to stop work to recharge the batteries.

I use batteries in a laser measuring device and a laser infrared thermometer all the time, which i tried to go the rechargeable route using Eneloops but was very disappointed in their longevity. With new Duracells i could get 3-4 months out of each device but with Eneloops, i get maybe 2 weeks max then they're dead and need to be recharged. Not sure if i got a bad batch but they're sure not worth it to me.

I find that the energizer lithium batteries are great, but you pay a premium for it. You'd have to do a battery cost vs. hours usage trial to see if it's worth the $.

Is this a green laser thing? My red laser lasts forever on 3 AAs, but a buddy was saying that his green laser eats them

Yeah the green laser is a battery beast. I borrowed my brother's green laser (much better when the sunlight is beaming into the workspace and in general.) I lent him my red laser. The red laser definitely lasted longer.

I was just about to pick up another pack of AA batteries, but decided to look into rechargeables.

I'm guessing I spend about $25/year on batteries for the green laser level.

Which brand of laser are you using? We've found the Dewalts last longer on AA batteries, the Bosch eats 'em very quick. Sorry this doesn't address your recharging issue. Battery life was so poor we've switched to lasers with separate battery packs,DeWalt,Hilti,Huepar,Makita. Let us know if it works. I know based upon experience the Huepar lasers that offer charging via USB will run on a 5500 to 30,000 mh portable powerbank. Some of the Huepars have a small removable battery pack, similar to the cordless phone batteries. We brought in a small power bank and tested the laser in the event the batteries went kaput and were proprietary/hard to come by, and the Huepar performed well,the model we tested was the 503(IIRC) and it did have the ability to plug into the wall as well as an alternative,but not always practical on a jobsite. Of course DeWalt, Hilti, Makita batteries can be had off the shelf. And as a slight drift, we provide our own tools on the job since we frequently move jobsite to jobsite and in 4 years I've progressed from the Dewalt crossbeam ,that runs on 3AA batteries to both the Dewalt crossbeam 12V and the 3x360 ,to now the Hilti 3x 360. And of course as supervision on our largest job, I ,personally don't use a laser daily like I did 4 years ago.. But I tell everyone skip the $150 dewalt,skip the $300 dewalt and just save the trouble and buy the $500 one first,and one time only, it's cheaper in the long run. But if one wants to save money the Huepar has proven to be a nice,budget friendly 360 degree laser.

The my help or not ? Panasonic Eneloop battery is what I was using in the camera flash ( I know it is not a laser level) but found they lasted the longest and don’t loss when been stored

NiMH batteries are perfect for high-drae applications. Just get something in the 2500-3000 mAH range and they'll e equivalent to alkalines.
