Hello everyone,
I've been wanting to make a thread about my little slice of heaven, and finally got off of my lazy *** and took some pictures. I don't have much of the day my fianceé and I bought the house, but the garage was a pretty empty canvas. The earliest photo I have that I can find right now is with my beloved Jetta wagon parked in it, finally out of the elements after 3 long years in an apartment.
Trying to fix pictures, here's an imgur album with descriptions!
Outside view, shortly after moving in:
Inside view:
You guys like these things, right? I spent six figures on it, but I got a house free
Brought home my first big toolbox, a 52" Husky. It was late and we weren't sure if it was going to fit in the wagon, but we were able to sneak it in the back and close the hatch. Success!
Unpacked the new box, and started to move some tools over from my smaller one.
After some time in the garage, taking a break! Best friend and his girlfriend at the time, there was a lot to be done.
Picture from today, there's parking on the left of the garage as well. That area comes in really handy when I'm bringing friends in for service!
Right side of the garage is typically where the shorter jobs get done... The reason why will be apparent in a bit. I'm hoping to get a shed in the spring so that all the lawn nonsense can find it's way out of my work area.
My newer large tool chest, alongside my first one. A few consumables on the pegboard, as well as my wrenches and a few filters, zipties, and a *very* DIY paper towel and glove holder. The idea here was that to do basic maintenance, I shouldn't have to move far to reach everything I need.
Engines waiting to get put up onto shelves that I'll build... right after lights
As well as the front end of my long-term project, and cabinets I recovered from a dentist's office about to be torn down.
My favorite car to date! 2004 VW Jetta, with a halfway respectable list of mods. But as this isn't Free Parking, I won't bore you with those here. I mounted more paper towels to the corner cabinet on the right, so that I can clean things up at the workbench without having to run all over the place. Hanging is a plastic bag holder/dispenser, made from a Hawaiian Punch container.
The bane of my existence... I hate cutting grass. Looking forward to a shed to get these lawn mowers out of the way, as well as getting the weed & feed and other lawn chemicals re-homed.
The lower corner cabinet was in the garage when we moved in, but I needed room for the shop crane, so now it's providing storage for some cleaners and car care chemicals. The upper cabinet is more fluids, filters, and other odds and ends that don't have a permanent home yet.
Whiteboard was dirt cheap at the hardware store, this is a total of 6'x3'. Great for planning, explaining concepts, and general shenanigans.
The double cabinet in the middle, where some spare parts live, as well as ziploc bags for organization. The pegboard has more of the non-automotive tools, or at least things I won't be using while parts are on the car.
The vise in its home, as well as a fire extinguisher waiting to be mounted, and a better view of the pegboard assortment.
My main toolbox! Labels are mainly for my quick reference, as I like to keep things relatively easy to access and spread out as much as I can (within reason, of course).
Top drawer, for electronics and other small/sensitive items.
First two drawers. 3/8" Drive stuff on the left, 1/4" drive on the right.
Next two, 1/2" drive and "Hex wizardry". I like puns.
Wrenches. These are backups, a few ratcheting and non-ratcheting. I'm just starting to build a collection of tools, but I mostly buy as I find I need them. Right side is a couple odds and ends including an impact screwdriver and some lithium grease.
Squeezers and ratchet straps.
Electrical, and weird/specialty tools. I don't do a ton of electrical work in vehicles, but there's a few things that I'll tinker with now and then.
Persuasion. This is where the Solvesall and the grinder live.
Lastly, my project! I'm a big VW guy, though I've been daily driving and autocrossing my Mazda 3 lately. Needs a transmission
Thanks for looking! Hopefully you enjoyed the pictures of my garage, I've got a lot to do but it's a bundle of fun to work on and work in.
