I was in AZ a couple weeks ago hanging out with my son for Father's Day and while in town I visited a friend who is having a new house built. The house was ready for drywall and I saw some colors of NMB I'd not seen before. I'd seen posts here on GJ about new colors but nothing definitive. I know it has been discussed here before but for the curious ones who didn't catch those posts here is a good video describing what's going on with all this colored cable! This popped up in my YouTube feed.

I like the idea of a unique color to help ID cable. I'm sure the pros on here have seen this for a while.

I buy almost all of the nm I use at Menards and got some baby blue 14/3 and purple 12/3 there when I wired a house late last summer. I haven't seen it since. All of the 14/3 I've picked up since has been white and I haven't had a need for 12/3 but would notice the purple roll in the aisle if it were there.

Owens Corning has the copyright on pink colored fiberglass insulation.

In the case of color coding nmb, it would fruitless for one mfr to lockout the others.

Who wants to remember more colors than those found in an 8-pack of crayolas?

I've seen this comment a few times.

I'm sure it's regional, but I've only seen Southwire (owns Romex® and Simpull®) in box stores and distributors. Who else actually sells NM-B?

Oddly no funky colors yet around here either...

Theres a few companies that make NM-b...

home depot here sells Southwire's Romex® brand NM-b and Cerrowire's cerroMax™ brand NM-B

I also see cerrowire's NM-b is color coded so no copyright on color coding

in canada there is a company called northern cables, that makes NMD-90 (NM-b equivalent) in addition to southwire who also makes NMD-90...

Doubt it would be a copyright, more like a registered trademark for pink colored insulation.
