Hahahaha...fixed that for ya.:bounce:

Put it in a storage locker just roll it on down the street.:D

Don't be offended I would've said it about maybe 30 different cars from that era. If it were better built it'd be your daily driver, no reason to have a meaty turbocharged car sitting in the street while you drive a n/a 4 banger. My real advice is not to put any money into the car and save up for a wrx if you like turbocharged vehicles. Actually, the cobalt ss turbo (and cheaper than a wrx) is a good car but fwd. Drivable year round? Sort of (with winter tires)!:bounce:

When I had a similar problem I put it under a cover at a self storage facility with an outside yard with security and a perimeter fence.

What makes it an even better deal is the amount of personal junk you can pack in the car at no additional cost .... :)

Somebody close slap this guy.

Someone may have some good ideas, IF we had a general location as to where you are at.

Now on the other hand, what about a storage building? Some of those are large enough to have a car, plus toolboxes, plus room to work. Or look in the "For Rent" section of the local newspaper and see if there are any garages for rent.

Storage locker for sure.

Or sell it

I never understood why people have project cars that live in apartments.

Dump the car if you have no facility and means to work on it.

By next year you'll have more money from not having to pay rent on a storage utility and less headache, not having to dealing with all the storage issues - dry-rot, mold, mice, bad gas, battery, corrosion, plus keeping vehicle inspected/registered if it's currently road legal.

You can always pickup ANOTHER project car on the cheap later on if you wanted to get back in to it.

It dont sound to me like you are in a financial situation that allows you to have a project car.

No shop, no project

Kinda how my situation is going to be.

Currently have a car and motorcycle, was going to buy a project/summer car but I will be between renting or buying a house next year. Ill be selling the bike sadly. Possibly downgrading cars as well to get a larger down payment.

It just makes sense to me.

If I was to keep the project, I would rent someone's garage space for cheap or hit up a marine shop or water sport place. Might have better rates.

If you can find an affordable storage locker/unit, be sure to find out whether they'll allow you to work on the car there. Some places do not allow this sort of thing to go on.

Jeez guys! If he wants a project car that's his business, not for any of us to tell him he can't afford one or shouldn't have one. So what if he lives in an appartment - why should that preclude him from owning a project? At least he's into older cars, not the modern rubbish of today.

I have rebuilt cars in the driveway. I once built an engine in someones little shed, and hauled it back to my car. I certainly have built many a carb and alternator on the kitchen table. ( Thanks Mom.)

You woke up and it was suddenly July ? Well, I have seen landlords allow those green heavy duty tent garages in the parking lot. They are pretty tough, and last more than a few years, even in the snow. They can do the work of a garage if you need them to.

alright i guess you all need more info on the current situation.... first of ive had the 300zx for about 4 year's i bought it when i was 19 and way overpayed for it but whatever i love the car, it was originally an NA but my self and a few friends did a TT swap into the car. this was a little more than a year ago. when i did the swap i lived in my hometown small country town in NE colorado. since i have moved to the denver to go to school for automotive and have been working in shop's since june of last year. since i moved up here quickly i didn't have time to find house and settled for an apartment. now i am still stuck in the lease until january and know i need to shelter the car over the winter. i do have room to work on the car a good friend of mine that i know from back home has a house with a garage where we work on our junk together. i just don't want to be a **** and take up his space with my car, same goes for taking the car back home i don't want to park my car in the garage and have my dad leave his nice pickup out in the winter cold. so this is where i'm stuck and thought that maybe renting a storage unit would solve my problems.

as for the wrx sti whatever yadayada subaru **** they are everywhere in colorado and i really have no interest in them at all. saying they have to much oomph for me is hilarious becuase my car makes 384whp and 349trq.

sorry if i seem like i'm being an *** but you guy's were making some pretty good jab's at me saying i don't have the money or buy a subaru or sell the car that is my pride and joy. just try to put yourself in my shoe's working full time going to school full time trying to keep my girlfriend happy full time and take car of a puppy.

It's very well built. They're just 25 year-old performance cars...what do you expect? The problem is too many idiots get ahold of them and don't property maintain them or abuse the snot out of them.

Here's a post just today of a 300zx twin turbo with 160,000 miles on it that FINALLY blew the original stock turbos (engine still good, owner brought it in the shop for an upgrade): https://www.facebook.com/houston.zauto/posts/269463919924884
Notice on STOCK 160,000 MILE longblock, tiny 2.5" downpipes, STOCK crappy intercoolers the car still made 462RWHP/444RWTQ. Poorly built? You need to do more research.

A Cobalt SS? LMAO. A 300zxtt will SMOKE a Cobalt. Same with a WRX. What car do YOU drive?

Rent a storage locker in a protected area - you'll be fine. If you're super paranoid about it flooding then put it up on ramps or jackstands. Maintain insurance on it (call your company and get insurance for storing it - it's cheaper than what you require to drive it and will still cover you if anything happens to it). Otherwise, invest in a GOOD QUALITY car cover if you must leave it parked outside. Are you a member of any car forums? I've got a 1991 twin turbo, gt28rs turbos, MSP manifolds, Specialty Z 3" divorced downpipes, etc etc setup for E85. They're great cars for sure - a lot of people are too wussy to work on them which is fine with me...more affordable that way :)

Storage unit, and small box if room. But it's a pita to have to go back, and forth to.
Same boat here, but work on it at my work, or at my dad's.

I can understand having a project car no matter what the living and/or garage situation.

I just don't understand having an apartment.

Especially when you add renting a storage unit to the apartment rental. I suppose it varies a lot with location but for that kind of money here you could rent a small house with a garage for about the same amount, or even get a mortgage for that matter.

Start looking around your neighborhood to see who might have a 2 car garage but only have one car to park in it. You might be able to rent a space for your car and possibly store tools there as well.

Years ago when I was in the same boat (around 2005ish) I actually put an add on Craigslist in the "Wanted" section. I put that I was willing to negotiate a "rental fee" with a homeowner if they had garage space to use. I ended up getting a reply from a guy who's elderly mother had a completely open garage now that his father had passed and they sold off a lot of his stuff from the garage. She didn't drive.

Long story short, we met and he realized I was a normal "good guy" or whatever. So we made a deal that if I would check in on his mom when I stopped by and run the occasional errand I could use the garage as often as I wanted for free. He even bought a new lock for the door and I was the only one with the key! It worked out really well. The garage was about 15 minutes away so not a big hassle and I worked out of there for almost two years while my wife and I got married and eventually bought a house.

This was in Louisville KY so not as big as Denver but no the middle of nowhere either. Its worth a shot!

While I lived in the barracks as a young Marine I rented two storage units next to each other. One for tools and stuff, the other for my grand national. At the time it worked fine.

Just dont get trapped in it for a long time because the rent adds up, yes your car will stay nice but 4 years at 70 a month is alot.

Rock a storage unit until your lease is up and find somewhere with a garage. Or since your a young buck without a family to provide for look for a garage with an apartment loft upstairs.

Just think about how many parts you can buy with the money you'd spend on a storage unit.

Is your car scared of the cold?
