No glass in new ventless heater

I just replaced my 23 year old Comfort Glo vent less convective wall mounted heater in my attached garage, mainly due to age and it was getting harder to start. It was still working well, but decided it didn't owe me anything.

I was surprised to see the new one, a Dyna Glo (pic below), has no glass between the flame and the grate, in effect, an open flame. This gave me pause, because any leaves blowing in the garage while opening the garage door, or any other debris, could blow directly into the burner box.

The old one had glass in front of the burner box. Nothing, but possibly dust, could blow in.

This has me concerned. Am I over-thinking this.

That would be an instant no for me. I'm not putting an open flame in the garage without some kind of shielding.

If you choose to replace that unit I will say that the best of the vent free gas heaters today are Empires. Also, the infra-reds burn cleaner than the blue flames. You get very high temps down in the meniscus of the plaqu.

What is the meniscus of the plaqu? I thought the meniscus was the curved surface of water in a glass cylinder.
