"No lock?"

Ok, so I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but if don't ask, you don't learn, so here goes...

The wife and I have bought a house that is underconstruction and got in just in time to add her touches and I got to put in a small detached garage..

Well, one thing I wanted was s door on the back, so I could cross ventilate in the summer, drive the mower out the back, etc.

Well, I was looking at the 7x6 rear door I got, and there is no lock, it's even labeled "No Lock."

Just seems crazy to have a door without a lock on it? Is this simply pointing to the fact that there is no exterior lock?

Is there another method of locking the door, that will be installed later? LOL

The door is just roughed in right now and I thought I'd see what the hive thought.

What kind of door is it? Roll-up, coil, swinging, rolling.

I'm guessing that the label simply means that the door is drilled for only a knob with integral lock, not a separate dead bolt lock. It DOESN'T mean that you can't install a lock yourself.

I guess I should have looked at the picture a little closer. It appears to be an overhead sectional door. Call the supplier and order a lock. It is not unusual for these not to come with a lock. Most people will install an operator which would serve to lock the door. However someone should have asked if you wanted a lock.

Find the box of hardware and look in there. I'm going to guess there is no keyed lock handle on the outside. There should be an interior slide-into-the-track type lock...if not,I bet you could add one.

Theres no lock on my door and no handle either. Doesnt need it. It has an opener. If power goes off, I will use the walk-in door to get inside

Cleaner look and garage door opener will serve as the lock. Who doesn't have a garage door opener now a days?

My big doors have no exterior hardware. I have to go and open the slide lock from the inside to open them. Not to inconvenient if your not using the door daily.

I wrote that jokingly but kind of serious also. That door likely had the option to be purchased with or without hardware and for those that will use an opener, why spend the money for hardware that will never be used.

Me too. Mine broke 6-7 years ago and I haven't put a new one in. They were too expensive. Didn't know at the time how cheap, easy, and most of all, available it is to replace the gear. It's 20some years old and figured I needed to replace and didn't have the money.

I have an extra garage door opener on my snow blower/mower I use to open my doors without a lock...kinda more convenient...as long as you have a side man door!

Yeh, good points.. I'll have to look into a small lift for it. There will be lifts on the two front doors and I won't want to clutter up the ceiling with umpteen openers..

I have two 10' roll up doors. They each have two kick slides at the bottom. I close them from the inside kick the slides into place then walk out the man door and lock it. No openers.

If a opener is going to be used no lock is needed or desired. I wired for openers in my 3 car garage in the 19 years since, they have never been installed there has only been vehicles in there 3 times.

I use C clamp Vise grips against a roller.... or a bolt thru the track to prevent it being raised when I dont want them to be

My big door on the barn has no exterior hardware (as others have mentioned). It has a slide bolt inside, and must be unlocked from there. I access the barn side of my building from either the shop door, or a back door, both of which lock. I like the idea that the big door is locked from the inside, and that there is no exterior hardware to fool around with. t
