I was just thinking about this yesterday as I needed to go to the local store (Local for me is 60mi round trip lol  ) for some tools ITC had a $39 deal on torque sticks and $59 on the inside slide hammer bearing puller, I did pull coupons from the June book and then started wondering where my JULY catalog was as it usually comes before the 1st of the new month

So I just got an email from Frieght with a message that they are trying something new digital online monthly flyer :eyecrazy:

Didn't see the center ITC coupon section (for those that suscribe to that) in it like the paper book :dunno: but all the monthly coupons are on line at web site and in weekly e-mail specials

There was an earlier email with a 25% off coupon for this weekend that said the ITC coupons are only available online now.
You have to sign in to see them.

Good! Save a tree. Paper catalogs should go the way of the dodo bird.

*I like HF, and have coupons on my phone right now.

Another thread that shoes the difference between my region and the US. All the tool stores and tool companies have either weekly, bi weekly monthly or quarterly printed flyers. Canadian Tire, Princess Auto, KMS Tools, Surewerx, Auto Parts Plus and Napa Real Deals are some of them

We have tons of trees and replanting programs in place. Nobody really buys stuff online so no cardboard box waste. Always thought Amazon was name after the Amazon rain forest where there cardboard boxes were sourced from.

Lot of people have the same opinion, exactly where all those cardboard boxes come from and do they get recycled. Seems like a big waste to me. Probably should go the way of the dodo bird

I prefer that the cashiers ringing up my stuff haven't been handling E. Coli contaminated coupons :p

The catalog was weird. I never liked how they would have the same products with two different prices.
Better coupons could usually be found online.

I don't like it because my HF doesn't have the ITC products in the computer, they ring up at regular price. Depending who is at the register they may not look up the product to give you the discount. If you get a willing cashier they have to get out a stack of paper and search for the discount code which makes the ten people in line angry.
So I will take the catalog with me and mark what I am buying and show them codes. If I forget the catalog or impulse buy I take a photo of the tag on the shelf. Even then they have to enter the code from the tag, I guess I'll be taking more photos of tags now.

Local to me, pretty much everyone has put paper flyers on hold due to Covid. I think the reasoning is that the passing out of papers spreads germs unnecessarily.

HD, Canadian Tire, Lowe's, etc all have weekly flyers online, but no longer in paper. Not sure if they plan to bring them back or if they're gone for good.

I wouldn't even notice if they left for good because I scroll them on my phone anyways.

The thing that really pisses me off about ITC (and I buy have a lot over the past several years probably close to 5K or better) is that you HAVE TO USE THE COUPONS.

WTF you pay for the privilege of getting volume discounts but you still have to play the coupon game. You don't know how many I have discussed with store managers and emailed corporate that I should just get the ITC discount at checkout WITHOUT having to show coupons codes for each and every purchase.

I just got approved for a wholesale account with a large Northeast distributor of a well known name brand for automotive and mechanic tools along with other merchandise a lot similar to HF for my flea mkt tool tent,
Beats going to my old distributor warehouse because will be about half the travel time.

Many are actually a better wholesale price than any HF discount can give me and a few are actually the same products :eyecrazy:

I often brought some of the HF to mkt as filler product because of the distant for weekend shoppers to acquire needed products as I had the local source

Many of these new ones are the TGJ approved Taiwan label too vs that notorious general mainland China HF stamp

Overall with the increase in line products (and possible quality) along with other business expenses I don't see Freight getting cheaper any time soon. Plus they have expanded closer into my summer sales territory with not one but two new stores

What next? No more free ****? :dunno:

They spend huge amounts of money on paper, printing and postage, to put out a monthly catalog, that has mostly the same items, at mostly the same sale prices. :headscrat

Cutting coupons out of a flashy paper mailer was fun and useful - in the 20th century.

That ship has pretty much sailed already. I haven't seen a decent free item coupon in months.

Good thing I already got all the magnetic parts dishes, moving blankets and throw-away multimeters I need.

As far as free stuff, they only have the blue LED light and possible free chest crush with their interactive jack stands.

I was just being facetious, since seemingly everyone is complaining about the lack of free stuff, as well as no printed catalogs. Personally, I could care less, (although I did use a free light on a night time fishing trip)

Or, for that matter, complaining of a lack of available HF products in general, as if they don't understand, the realities of our (and HF's too) brave new world of "coronavirus economics" :dunno:

The interesting thing is Eric Smidt is getting made-up brand names for all the new tool lines. He apparently has discovered you can get a trademark for around $200 and 20 minutes of online paperwork.

It doesn't work like that. If people stop using paper, farmers/land owners stop planting trees to harvest for paper & we end up with fewer trees.

Go to northern Wisconsin and get back to me about clearcutting and farmers/land owners planting more trees. It was only after they were mandated that trees were replanted.

Harbor Freight has almost as many weird retailing ideas as Eddie Lampert.

Eddie had plans to "retail" something?

As to his business plan, Sears is doing just fine.

The real estate investment trust will collect a $5.3 million termination fee from Sears’ parent company, Transformco, as part of the deal. The payment is due by Sept. 30 or “the completion of going-out-of-business sales.”
