Long time reader, finally registered.... cause I now have the requisite blank slate.

I already have a decent amount of tools and a smaller Craftsman air compressor.

Mini projects I need/want to do right off:

- Hard air lines
- epoxy/cover the floor
- Paint walls/decorate. I say decorate, cause that's what the lady is doing to the rest of the house. Want some cool ideas on this. I am thinking white/offwhite, perhaps with a blue stripe all the way around it from maybe hip to chest height.
- Build some work tables (not sure on wood/metal here. I dont have any welding gear...yet.)
- Figure out HVAC (im in Texas, garages get sweltering here)

What else should I plan on doing right off before I pile a zillion things in there? We have about $2500 left after closing, and I want to build a bigger deck out back with most of that, and some of the rest will be for garage stuff.

Thoughts?

BTW - the pics - the attic is almost ALL storage up there. lower ceiling due to this, which ***** for most lifts, but a small lift is definitely in the plans.

Vehicles in this garage for NOW will be my 70 c10 and her 71 super beetle

First welcome . Ok now that thats over with Paint and Epoxy ( if you plan to epoxy do it now ) After that work benches ( thats easy buy extra wood for the deck ;) ) . You can build a nice workbench with 4X4 leggs and 2X4's . Look for bad solid core doors at Homie depot or Lowes or on craigslist for benchtops.

Chris I would probably paint first before doing the epoxy . There is alot of good info in the flooring section on epoxy . The only recomendation I would make on the paint is to paint everything walls ceiling ( everything ) with Gloss paint so it will be easier to keep clean and also make it much brighter in there.

Yea, that was the plan. Also need to plan lighting. Left that off the list entirely.

Welcome and nice place.

I never understand why house builders will rock and mud garages and then just leave it like that? Is there a reason its not just painted white right away? Seems like little effort to make the place look nicer.

I have 7 4' 2 bulb flourescent fixtures and one 4 bulb 4 footer in my garage with 6500K bulbs . My garage is 21X25.

Rick

Yea, I figure that will be a $200 home depot run and a few hours of wiring and hanging to be done. Likely will paint first though.

Yeah lazy/cheap builders do that. It's for fire code that it has to be 'rocked and taped.

The builder I went through did the garage walls just the same as the house other than they are not textured and painted white (house is a creme/yellowish color)

Your possibilities are endless Sir - nice space, great trailer, cool ol VW.

Maybe it's just an optical illusion, but are the "birdmouths" in your attic seperating upward from the main joist? You may want to get that shored up before you put too much stuff up there.

I noticed when I got home - it was dark up there, so the flash was the ONLY source of light. Home inspection didn't mention a thing of it, either - so I assume it was an illusion. It's on my list of things to check on for sure.

edit - trailer isnt mine :(

So much for free space.....

planning on sanding/painting the garage as soon as I unpack more. Going to go wimbledon white with daytona blue shelby stripes on the sides in a oil based high gloss. I dont have one. I wish I did. I have a Focus. That doesnt count.... but maybe one day. For now, I enjoy the tribute and will hang the Shelby watercolor autograhed piece front and center.

Well, cleaned up some, added the rubbermaid organization stuff and got the 17.5 foot long vehicle to fit in!

Now, need to clean the parts NOT in the pic so there is more work space.

Building a workbench and a shelving unit this w/e I think.

Nice shop with a lot of potential.
Do your painting and get your lights up before it gets too cluttered (Ask me how I know about this).
I also have a low ceiling but make do with a mid rise scissors lift.

Yea, we are still unpacking out of the garage. As soon as we get it emptier (or just to garage items) we can get the paint/floor/lights done. Coming soon! I need a friend who is an electrician.
