No more solvent at tractor supply?

Haven't tried any of the solvents yet, but will look into the ones mentioned by PoorUB & drmarkr (Thanks!).(y)
I suppose that they could be close or similar to the PSC.
Luckily, I traveled across the state today to pick up a lonely 5Gal container of the PSC at a Tractor Supply. It should get me by for the short term. I'll try to filter it to extend the life.
I'll also plan ahead with the suggestions to see which ones could work similarly to the PSC 1000.

Other: Got a reply from Tractor Supply today regarding the supply status. Same as before... "We’re excited to hear you’re interested in our Crown PSC 1000 Parts Cleaner 3893915. We have researched this product and show it is out of stock. We do not have a restock date at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
In other words... TS answer: I don't know. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks!

IMO, the Crown stuff is just Stoddard Solvent, or stanisol, or varisol with a different name.

I would not get hung up on it and buy from a local oil distributor. Heck, in a pinch I will buy a couple gallons of paint thinner and dump in the parts washer. It is all about the same stuff.

I've been trying to purchase 10 gallons of PSC 1000 for a couple of weeks now. Is is not available anywhere in Southern California or Arizona from what I've been able to determine. So I emailed SolvChem's customer service last Tuesday at 8:45 pm PST, and had a reply in less than 10 minutes from Chris Matherene. His reply:

Evening Greg,

No shortage. We’ve been working with Tractor Supply on a pricing adjustment as this product has become more costly to obtain due to commodities costs fluctuating more rapidly than expected.

On Friday we finally got everything squared away and product will be flowing back into their distribution centers soon.

Probably retail of $50-55 versus the $45-48 it was.

Metal spiked along with the liquid creating a bit of a perfect storm.

You should see product back in stores in 7-10 days.

Thanks for this! I've been looking at the TSCs in the Houston/surrounding area and nada... I just got my HF parts washer assembled a few days ago but I can't justify the $115 - $235 (Blaster - Graymills, respectively) bucket prices. I think someone mentioned Cox Hardware, but they're 70 miles or so away, and I'd have to deal with Houston traffic. Ugh.

I switched to simple green HD. It is fantastic and works far better than most any other solvent I have encountered. It's non-flammable, friendly to pour down a drain, you don't need gloves to use it, and if you combine it with a heated parts washer it works even better. You can mix a gallon into 5 or if you choose to buy a few gallons and make a stronger concentration.

I have the Simple Green crystal (clear) in mine with no issues.

Careful with SG, it's been known to eat the paint off the inside of parts washers, not to mention that you don't want to clean any aluminum parts with it.

I can't say I'd recommend pouring used SG from your parts washer down the drain either. https://simplegreen.com/faqs/#:~:text=▶ Disposal — Can Simple Green,of in a storm drain.

FWIW Simple Green HD is not the standard simple green you are probably thinking of. It is good for all metals, approved for use in Aluminum, Stainless, polished steel, chrome and other metals. I was skeptical at first. It is powerful enough to strip off poorly applied or bad paint though but not effective on powder coat (I wish it was though, lol). I know my tank is powder coated so not an issue for me but that is a good point to bring up. I read the MSDS before I started messing with it and the only real caution is to not use it over asphalt and it does dry out your skin and can cause irritation if it is concentrated so I would be cautious in that regard. I originally filled my parts washer with 5 gallons and used it straight to test out and it never really bothered me but over time I watered the solution down because at around 16 bucks a gallon I figured why not see how effective it is and plus I am usually able to throw something in and just let it soak for a bit.

This is what I have been using. I buy it from a local bulk oil and fuel dealer. Solvent 142, comes in a 5 gallon pail, or 55 gallon drum. I just picked up a pail and with tax it was about $73. As far as I can tell it is the same old stoddard solvent, mineral spirits or stanisol I have been buying for years.

I don't know why guys get hung up on TSC when I bet they can buy this locally. More than likely the same chit.

Maybe its the 28 dollars in price difference if you are paying 73.

One other place I found a brand that I am unfamiliar with is Northern Tool. They had Von Haas Parts Washer Solvent. I personally know nothing about it but saw it one day and was a little curious. It's also around 75 bucks or so for 5 gallons.

Update: after looking at a couple reviews seems like it is going to eat the paint off the inside of your parts washer so maybe avoid it.

Solely due to the cost difference here. Why pay more for the same stuff?

Yes, but they have it in stock and TSC does not!

Who gives a **** what the price is if you can't buy it! A great price is worth nothing if the product is not in stock.

One member here said he drove across the state to buy the TSC stuff. Hopefully he was going anyway, but you can not drive very far for $28. Plus when TSC gets it back in stock perhaps the price will go up some.

Again, because I CAN buy it, they have it in stock, TSC doesn't.

I am all about saving a buck or two, but when you need something you need it.

Another reason, I run right by this seller all the time, TSC is a 20 miles run trip for me in a direction I don't go very often. Look at the cost ot operate a motor vehicle.

I just found and read the MSDS. Yes, that should be safe for aluminum, as it's mostly surfactant and solvent (well, discounting the 73% water portion at least). Still, I would not suggest that it is safe to pour down the drain, particularly after you've used it to clean parts.

You asked why some of us are "hung up" on the TSC solvent, and I simply provided my answer. TSC is not out of the way for me; the nearest oil distributor is. I don't need more solvent today, but I sure was interested in know if PSC 1000 was discontinued for the future (glad it isn't). I'll buy more once it's back on the shelves next week. Not sure why you're looking for an argument. Nobody adjusted a floor jack in this thread.

Well, you pointed out why it works for you, I pointed out why it works for me. I see it often where someone hops in the pickup and drives a ways to pick up something, saying it is just gas, but actually the cost per mile is close to a buck.

Guy here are in a twist because they can not buy the stuff from TSC. If you need it I just showed an alternative. Other guys were referenceing cleaners that are 4x times the price, why dont you go bust there chops?

I know it's more money but the Greymills 'Agitene" is really good stuff. You can filter it forever and it still cleans great.

Essentially every product you're buying has an MSDS that will tell you exactly what is in it! If it's not clear doing that, 15-20 minutes on Google should fill in the gaps.

The TSC product you're all clamoring for is essentially Stoddard solvent! Go buy 5 gallons and get on with it....

One more thing... there not a fooking chance that I'm putting a water based cleaner in my tank. First, a simple understanding of basic chemistry will tell you it's not going to clean heavily soiled, oily parts like hydrocarbon based solvents. Second, I'm not going to waste my time rinsing everything I clean with water. Finally, I have this aversion to rust on all the metal parts that we work on...and having to blow them all dry and/or spray them with water disperser's would be a huge waste of time. Not to mention the spots that are missed, and still wind up with rust. As always, ymmv.

I think we covered that above, but if not, the price per gallon is what makes the PSC 1000 attractive. Yes, you can effectively buy the same solvent elsewhere, but you'll pay for it.

I didn’t want to keep waiting for TSC to get their solvent back in stock. So I found some PBlaster parts washer solvent online at Blaine’s Farm&Fleet. $75 for 5 gallons on sale + shipping. And it’s still cheaper than buying some locally…

Patience may have paid off... 8 days later and PSC1000 is back in stock online at the original price! Damnit.

Even though a second note from TSC said they don't have them in stock or in the stores...
I'm starting to see a stock status change. I was able to order one 5-gal container almost two weeks ago, but am now seeing some stock status changes locally.
These new containers are rectangular black'ish plastic containers, instead of the old grey round metal ones. This agrees with what I've read from the OEM. Let's see if they continue with the "Big restock". Haven't had a chance to verify/read the label, but it sounds promising.

Thought I would update. I ended up buying a five gallons can of CRC brand solvent. I still like the Crown better. And the CRC was $189 instead of $50.

Good news is that I can now order the Crown from TS, and the price is still $50. But, it isn't available for pickup until the 17th. Last year I could not even special order it.

Will update when I get to pick it up.

Said I would update; then didn't. What a friggin slacker.
I ordered it. Got a call saying my gloves were ready for pickup, but no solvent. Don't really need the gloves if I can't get the solvent.

Are you guys STILL able to get the Crown PSC 1000 from Tractor Supply? I can't figure out why they aren't shipping to OK. I KNOW it isn't some state law as we can still by lacquer paint and thinner here. What's up?

I happened to drive by the local TSC the other day. No more TSC here! Locked up and cleared out.
About a block away Runnings moved in and I imagine out classed the TSC. The Runnings moved in to an old Kmart building so pretty good sized operation. At least 4X the size of the TSC that closed.
