Craftsman ratchets look nasty, get something decent.
Look just fine too me. I had to pry one of the v shifter ratchets from a friend's hand and handed him a dual 80 snappy instead

After reading enough humor,my thoughts are to help without ridiculing. I would try the Ace Store first,if the clerk acted unsure,I would calmly and politely ask to speak to the manager. If he would not respond,I would go to Sears.Either place will probably go China junk.Either new or rebuild kit will get you going. This would be the time,I would seriously think about upgrading to a better brand.GJ will have advice on that.A better ratchet will be safer and make wrenching more pleasurable. Aren't you worth it? Good luck, welcome aboard.

A couple years back, I brought a broken ratchet wrench (bought from Sears) into the local ACE to explore their warranty procedure. I was given slip of paper with e-mail and a phone number to call to obtain warranty information.

I loved my Craftsman tools. Much of which were stolen in the '90's but I had duplicates of many of them. So I still have a full set of metric & standard V series combination wrenches, which I still love and use occasionally. My Craftsman sockets have served with distinction for 30 years; again, V series.

But the raised pane ratchets... Oh how I loathe that ratchet. I've never had one that held up worth a ****. Maybe I've just had very bad luck, but they selector weakens very soon, and then doesn't stay put. Or they just break.

I replaced my Craftsman with an SK eons ago, and I've never had even the slightest problem. They are old tech, a little clunky in comparison to modern ratchets, but what I love about them is they are freaking bulletproof!

That said, I have other ratchets that I use and a few that I like much better than my old SK's. But when push comes to shove and I know things are about to get physical, the SK comes out of the box.

I'm going to give it a year or so for them to quietly work out all the bugs, but I WILL be buying one of their new teardrop ratchets. The one I held was nicer than a SnapOn in my opinion. But I have heard of a few small niggles with the new ratchet, so I'll give them a little time to work out any issues (real or imagined), and then I'll buy a good ole American made SK and continue the tradition.

In 1/4" my SK is my absolute favorite, and same for 1/2". I just don't reach for my SK first in 3/8" because there are better ratchets out there. Now the new 80 tooth upgrade may change that...probably not, but I'll have to spend some quality time with it to really know.

I always like to believe the best in people, but I'm afraid the trollcallers are correct. The OP was last signed in the exact time of the original post.

My hands cowered in fear and hid in my pockets just seeing those horrendous handles. PTSD from yanking on the Flintstone-era ergonomics of those handles many years ago.
