Yes, if you buy the weakest model, it won’t be as strong as a stronger model from another brand. There is a newer GB50 that would have been better competition. Personally, I was not interested in anything other than the GB150. I have a JNC318 that cost $100 (the identical Clore ES580 can be found for a little less) that can compete with the GB40 or GB50 or GB70 for less money. I would have liked to see it in that Farm test; maybe there are reasons why the GB50 and Clore ES580 were not tested?

Thoughts on the Noco GB150 vs the JNC770B was on sale at Amazon for $104 few days ago.
Something was wrong with that unit. I know because I own one.
As long as it starts your car when needed it is fine. I have a JNC 318 that is stronger than the GB40 and has been fine for the past 2 years on the occasions I needed it, but it recently would not start a Nissan Frontier. It was 10F outside and the Nissan battery was 6 years old and had a dead cell and had frozen and expanded. But still, my JNC 318 would not start the engine. When I bought the charger, I thought it might not be enough so I had been looking for a stronger unit if I found one at a great price. Hopefully the GB150 will do the job and I won’t have to buy a big unit like the JNC 660 or 770.
Yeah, it's hard to say. There are other reviews out there that indicate the GB40 works fine for cars.
I was watching a video from Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics last night where he was trying to start a boom lift with a drained battery and a GB70 I think. The battery still had juice, but this was outside the scope of what that unit can do. He does a test on the replacement starter in the second part of that video where it pulls an insane amount of amperage without any load on it. What was interesting is the boom lift refused to start, no surprise. He left it connected while he was looking at other things and came back 30 minutes later and tried again and the boom lift started. I wonder if the Noco benefits from allowing time to charge the battery enough so the battery can start the engine? As to why, I don't know. Maybe they limit the current it can release to protect the battery? Without someone doing more detailed bench testing against other units, it's all speculation.
But, if you have a Noco, keep this in mind if it fails to initially start an engine. Leave it connected for up to 5 minutes to allow it to charge the battery and this should also heat up the battery in the Noco so it should perform better the next time you attempt a start.

Definitely time hooked up before trying to start helps when using these mini starters. But when it’s windy and 0F outside, I am not very patient. Giving it 10 minutes would be my fallback position. I gave up on my JNC after 2 minutes in similar weather - it was not even giving a slow crank.

First charge... And I have two GB40's on the way for the spare vehicles.
I chose these over a jnc because I like that the lithium ion batteries hold a charge longer and last longer. I had an old jnc that failed years ago. I'm willing to pull them out for a charge once a year but not quarterly.
I chose the noco's because of their reputation for safety and quality. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives that work fine, but there are also plenty of instances where cheap units fail in extreme heat while being stored in a car. I've also observed a jump pack melt it's cables under normal use.
Just my perspective. I'm happy with the Cyber Monday deals on these!!!

I have had the GB40 for about two years. The only time it has let me down was when a battery had a bad cell or something and was stone dead.
Started my 5.7 on my boat on Saturday. Started right up. I have used it a number of times. The battery holds a charge well.
I like it, I own one, I use it. I can not speak for the experience of others.

I have 2 GB40s. Neither one could jump start my 4 cyl propane forklift or my 4 cyl Nissan Sentra. I regret buying them. One has already failed, it won't charge. They're both less than a year old.
