Noco GB40... get out the jumper cables

Just got off a "support" chat with Noco. What a joke.

I bought a Noco GB40 last summer and have kept it fully charged. In the past few months, I've tried to start multiple vehicles with it:

Fully dead Cherokee: lit up the dashboard but not even enough power to make the starter click

Outback that had the ignition on while I was doing brakes for 2 hours, so it was mostly dead: enough to slightly turn over the engine but not start it

Infiniti G35: turned over a few times but wouldn't start. After about 5 attempts the red light flashed meaning it was overheated and needed to cool. When it finally cooled down, battery gauge had 1 LED left.

So I know it's working, it just doesn't have the cajones to start a car. Maybe if you left your headlights on for an hour, but not a mostly dead battery. I've read similar reviews online since I bought mine, and a good friend has had the same experience with his.

Normally I would recommend getting a bigger Noco, but after the no-help customer no-service I got today (I asked them if I could get a refund or pay for an upgrade to a more powerful model), I'll be counting this as a loss and going with a different brand. This piece of garbage is going in my ATV bucket.

Your mileage may vary. Ending my rant.

Got the same model from some Amazon special deal. Have not had a need to use it yet.

I hate when you have a tool you need to depend on and its a POS...

The 70 is great. I used it like a year ago and just dug it out last week to start the car and it fired right up. This is without recharging after the last use. Guess I should throw it on the charger for next year.

I have the GB40 and tried to use it once to jump start my Infiniti M56 no go, got the indicator showing overheat or something like that. let it rest a few minutes and tried again in bypass mode and no go. Had to call roadside assistance and with the lead acid jump pack they had first try cranked right up. As far as i'm concerned that was a waste of $140 (think thats what I paid). it would not even turn over, I did hear a click on the first attempt. No more noco for me. I got suckered by some youtube reviews showing it staring a jeep without a battery even connected.

Did you read the instructions? I don't have that brand but mine states you must hook it up and let it work for a while before trying to start the motor.

Some interesting results here

That said, I don't have any of these jumper boxes. I'm a fan of jumper cables! All my vehicles and ATVs/UTV have jumper cables on them.

I know this is different, but I just had a situation where the cargo light was accidentally left on in my wife's Outback. I could have jumped it with my car, but figured a battery charger would be a good addition. I picked up a Shumacher 1282 and charged it up, or so I thought. No dice. I swapped for a 1281, for $59. It showed the batteries was only 30% charged and I used the start feature to start the car right up. Good buy in my book. When on the go I've got jumper cables and this allows me to charge up my lawn tractor too.

Great test!! I've been wondering about these little packs! Definitely going to stick one in the wife's car!

Pure junk we had a supplier swap out 6 or 7 of them before giving up and issuing a refund..........

Thats what happens when a company spends all their money on advertising.

I would bet they did a huge production run, and cant improve the product until it sells through.
