Non Automatic interupter 60 amp??

it looks like a breaker but does this mean it will not trip automatically?
FPE is on the small box near the heat pump and it is a switch to turn off power to the heat pump.

So is it an over current breaker or just an off and on switch?

Most likely just a switch,open it up and you will find your answer...

thats just a disconnect switch. similar to the square D QO air conditioner disconnect. looks like a breaker but is just a switch

Looks just like a breaker, and fits in the same place a breaker will fit (Square D QO). When I bought my house, I had my wide pine board floor sanded and varnished before I move in. The guy doing this had a collection of breakers and depending on what brand of panel, he had something to fit. He opened the panel cover and mounted a breaker with his floor sanders wired directly to the breaker.

Somewhere in the course of this, he left his "breaker" and took one of mine. Turns out that what he left was one of these switches, that provides NO circuit protection at all. I found it several years later, while trying to determine the amp rating of it, and of course, removed it and disposed of it, installing a new breaker in its place.

I would not do it if it is an FPE box. Better to just install a new disconnect with a breaker.

we're speaking to the square D device in the picture. You can put the sqd switch in a panel, dont know if the disconnect enclosure is keyed to prevent a breaker from being installed or not. Someone correct me if im wrong, i dont believe its listed for use with a breaker. They make a 2 space loadcenter if thats what you need.

why not just do what I suggested in your other thread and use a small 2 space loadcenter?

well a disconnect box is meant for outdoor use. where this goes will get wet.

they make a 2 space 3R loadcenter. This is the same weather rating as a disconnect. The problem you have is these are designed to protect from rain from overhead. Hardly intended for a marine environment.

Perhaps a plastic waterproof enclosure such as this http://www.factorymation.com/s.nl/it.A/id.61402/.f?sc=2&category=142555 plus a din rail 1P60A UL489 breaker http://www.galco.com/scripts/cgiip.exe/wa/wcat/itemdtl.r?listtype=Catalog&pnum=1CU60L-ALTH plus whatever terminal blocks you need for your neutral and ground.

is that breaker a double lug in out wire style?

thing is the genset is also a lot of metal. I took apart its 'control-o-matic' control box once to clean out the rust and coated it with epoxy and that works well.

yes that breaker mounts to a din rail and has wire in and wire out. they are typically used in industrial control panel applications.
