Yes, specify if you're talking about a two post or four post lift. Four posters in general don't have to be bolted down.

Many four post lifts come as optional or standard dollies that you can move the lifts around with the vehicle on it. My Dannmar lift came standard. I have moved it with a truck on it by myself but much easier with two. I lined the dollies to the direction that I was going. Otherwise one person cannot get it moving. Once it was going it was easy to move. As I got to the wall, I realized that slowing it down was harder than getting it going:wtf:

Well i think a 4 post lift would prob be the safest, pretty much the most compact one that you could pack up or something...im so limited on space and that is my real main problem.

If you end up having to bolt one down, the heating lines are easy to find using one of the handheld temp guns. With the system running get down near the floor and scan it back and forth, you'll find the lines by seeing a couple degree variance in the floor temp over each line. You can pinpoint the lines within a fraction of an inch very easily.

4 posts don't need bolting but they are no way near compact. I just moved mine from my old house to new house a month ago...almost wish I had bought a new one and left the old one there just to avoid the taking apart phase.

I have mine with casters and can move it around easily, new garage has a high enough door that I can even roll it out to the driveway on nice days.

Mikeyr - any shop photo's to share - or a build thread?

Its further along now so this thread is out of date but here is my build thread.

A poor picture of the lift is on page 2. Here is a pic of the lift in my old garage

new one is much bigger and while its VERY cluttered right now since we just moved in 2 weeks ago, I have 3 days to get it functional.

I too have radiant heat and a good size Rotary 4 post lift.
The Rotary Lift dealer's guys installed it for me last summer.
They told me it was not nessecary to bolt it down as my floor is very thick and dead nut level.
So far it's worked perfectly just sitting there as installed.

I was going to get this one, but ended up getting a full rise on sale instead. This one doesn't need to be anchored. This one goes up higher and leaves the center open compared to the bendpak md6xp.

That's the same one I have and love it. I did bolt it down with 2 bolts to prevent it from moving every time I drove up on it. I park my car on it daily. I built a box around the front and center so I don't have to power up over the lift when backing out and easier to move around underneath. Now I can maneuver a transmission jack around. Also more comfortable lying on your back.

This is a great thread. I also have radiant heat tubes in my floor and have been considering a lift. While i would like a 2 post lift, i dont want to drill into my floor and i dont like how much room they eat up, and arent movable. Looked at the danmar lefts, but you still have to drill in anchors. The 4 post lifts would by nice for storing a car on, but dont seem very useable for actual car repair. Myabe other guys can give feedback on that.
Like others in this thread, I am also considering a scissor style lift, so its great to see some info on them.
Are bendpak lifts as good as their website and literature claim them to be?
I look forward to other replies and feedback on this thread.
