I have a spot above my hanging furnace where two pipes come through the ceiling. Looking for some kind of product to seal around them.

Don't really want to use expanding foam cause it's less than 12" away from the heater.

Gap is too wide for high heat caulk....

Doesn't need to have insulation value, just needs to hold the insulation in the attic.

Aluminum duct tape maybe from the attic side?

What else is there? I'm drawing a blank!!!

That expanding foam, I know you said you didn't want to use it, but they make one that is a fire block (I think they are all fire proof but they make one specifically for that).

Cool didn't know they made that..... Figured all the foam would be flammable.

Never have seen it at the local hardware store (Small local town variety). I'll check the lumber yard or Menards or Lowes.

Thanks!

All I know is don't let one fall off even a low shelf! I knocked a brand new one off a 5 gal. bucket a few months ago it it exploded like a bomb! My cloths were instantly covered and EXPANDED over me! Tools, air compressor, snowboarding boots, freezer and the dogs tail OF COURSE, all covered! NOT FUN!

But very comical afterwards :lol_hitti

I've heard that Great Stuff brand has it as well, found it:

199020-1
$13.51

* Forms a fireblock AND a durable, airtight and water-resistant bond.
* Not rated for use as a Firestop in commercial fire rated walls
* GREAT STUFF PRO is closed-cell foam. It forms a water-resistant outer skin when cured.
* Bonds to wood, drywall, metal, masonry, glass and most plastics.
* Tack free in six minutes. Trims in 30 minutes.
* Wide temperature operating range (25°F to 120°F). Most foams only work in 60°F to 90°F. Freeze/thaw stable.
* Foam elasticity allows for movement/shifting within a structure from winter to summer.
* Paintable, stainable and sandable.
* Can be used to replace acoustical sealants on interior walls. Acoustical Rating: Sound Transmission Class rating of 69.
* Mechanical spring valve of GREAT STUFF Pro foam is superior to rubber valve. Won’t glue shut after use. Use 1/4 of the can today, 1/4 in 30 days, and that can will be good for…another 30 days!
* Choose from three foam applicator gun models. Extended length gun barrel available for easier application, such as sub-floor construction.
* Orange colored foam allows easy identification by building code inspectors

It's my understanding that this stuff is the same as the regular stuff but just a different color, but I would buy the fire rated stuff to be sure.

Why not use a metal cover over the hole in the ceiling?

It's where I notched out of the tin ceiling material to go around the pipe that the furnace hangs from. (Furnace was already there, had to work around) So my cuts are not exact, I need something to seal around where the pipe goes up thru the ceiling. The fire rated expanding foam will be perfect!!! Just didn't know they made it.

Get a pipe collar, not too expensive. If you have tin left from the ceiling make your own...
