Non-IC Recessed Lights

The lights I want to use outside the garage are 3 inch recessed Non-IC lights. I understand the part about not have insulation with in 3 inches of it, but it doesn't stands anything about above the fixture.

The area I want these to go in (the overhang on the front of the garage) would put the top of the wire housing about a inch away from the roof line(about. 2 inches from the top of the housing. Would this work? Or should I look for a light that is IC comparable? I was trying to use a light that was ok for damp areas as these are outside. Hard to find a IC and damp location light I like.

What fixture are you looking at? Many of the recessed cans just get derated to a lower watt bulb to meet the IC rating.

Any good recommendations for what I should look into? Any places online that people have used?

From what I measured (it was a quick measurement before work) I have about 6 inches of clearance to the roof. No insulation yet so I can place it where I need it. Id like to use ones made for damp locations up does anyone think I NEED those for my location?

Yep,stay away from that fixture in the link.Go to the next shelf and grab some of the Halo/Cooper fixtures instead,afaik no need for an IC rated fixture in an uninsulated exterior eave.

Go to store and pick up a commercial electric recessed light and a halo recessed light of the same style. You will be surprised that they are almost exactly the same, but hey halo cost more money so it should be better,right. The light you picked isn't made for outside. Depending on the space above it you want ic and air tight if you can, so you don't get bugs and stuff going up into the soffet. But there's not to many old work 3-4 inch recessed air tight ic lights readily available.

I have plenty of harbor freight stuff that works fine. I've also installed halo lights that are a pain in the **** and break. Not to mention your stuck with certain trims. So it goes both ways.

you should choose a bulb that keep inside the housing to get a better look also.
