Just ran across this today, and thought it was interesting...
A 'Chapin' brand cordless electric backpack sprayer, "Powered by Black+Decker". It uses the standard B+D 20V MAX lithium battery packs.

What's interesting is that Chapin looks to be independent, so this isn't a cross-branding or OEM thing... It appears to just be a mutually beneficial product design partnership. Black + Decker sells a B+D branded version, but it looks like a Chapin produced product (Chapin advertises "Private Label Opportunities" on their website.)

I'm not in the market for a sprayer, but thought it was an interesting pairing.

Anyone know of any other non-OEM manufacturers partnering up like this? Is it a common thing? :dunno:

Judging by the silence, I'm guessing it must not be that common. :D

I do like the idea.

It's too darned expense to cook up a mass produced plastic and metal thingie (people who haven't been involved in the process would be quite surprised by the startup costs for things like tooling), but it does give you hope that weird specialty tools (maybe a battery powered blender) might end up on the shelves.

Personally, I think that the power tool battery biz is just an enormous scam on everybody, not dissimilar to the printer consumables industry, and wish that one of the companies would make their battery design an open-source kind of thing and concentrate on selling the tools themselves. It would be a great way for one of the second tier power tool companies to actually break lose from the pack.

I recall seeing a few years back some commercial kitchen hand held mixers that used what were clearly pistol grip power drill motors. I didn't pay much attention to the OEM of the drills but they were European products.
