non-reversible drill?

hi yall, i was shopping for pneumatic drills and came across some that are "non-reversible". does this mean they only drill in reverse (or the normal drilling direction)? are they specifically designed for fabrication? somebody educate me.

They only drill normally (clockwise). It's cheaper to build a drill that doesnt' have a transmission, and potentially the thing is smaller and lighter becuase of it. If you're drilling holes, reverse isn't very useful. If you use it to run a grinding burr, reverse isn't useful.

All air drills I have seen reverse by moving a valve to change air flow to turn the motor the opposite direction.

Lots of the quality manufacturers have reversible and non-reversible drills. Non's tend to be smaller and lighter, and are typically used in production environments. All but one of my air drills are non-reversing.

Agreed, reversing exits but unlike cordless or corded tools is absolutely not universal in air tools.

Many air tools used on a production line are non reversible.
A popular scam in Michigan where I worked in a gas station in the 70’s was someone trying to sell you a 1/2” drive impact.
The tool only worked in one direction and was probably stolen out of an auto plant somewhere.

i bought a pneumatic reversing flex head cutoff tool from matco, on a whim. it's saved my bacon too many times.
