Wow, sorry to hear about ALL of that, especially the Parkinson's. Hopefully the next project, whatever it may be, will bring you some joy!

So sorry to hear about the death of the Volvo. Even more sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Get as much stress out of your life as possible and take each day as the gift it is. While there's no cure yet, enough well-off celebrities are being treated one might be found sooner than later. My invisible friend is not answering many of my requests lately but I'll put in a good word for you.

Thanks guys! Low energy day, swept the shop for a few then called it.
Now I'm trying to decide V8 or V6 for the van. Seems I have no choice but to fix it or donate it. If I go V8 it ups the complexity but increases the chance I will want to keep it. Did very little camping with it as planned. Much cheaper to go V6 even though the engine cost more. (Odd huh?) It will take a fraction of the time. V6 won't give me the confidence towing I require.
Either way its time for another engine swap.

V-8 swapping the van would be more work, but it would probably result in more smiles as you drive, plus towing ability is always nice. Yours certainly looks nice, and if you would enjoy using it for camping, even better. I've always liked those Astro vans, but they aren't really a fit for my needs. Still, maybe I'll own one someday.

Well I sold the 5.0 and swap stuff from the Volvo. Sold the van. Now we plan to move so I am clearing out the shop. I suppose that is my new project, selling tools and collectibles. It actually feels like a load off.
Fresh start always interests me. Not sure if I will have a shop or just a 3rd garage bay? Too early to tell. Probably a year or so before we can do anything.

Well good luck at the swap meet! Doubt I'll be going down there, but if I am, I'll check back in for your booth # to be able to stop by & say hi. Are you staying semi-local or making an escape to somewhere else?

Thanks! Looking seriously at AZ. 55 years in the Seattle/Tacoma area I am half afraid I'll wither in the heat. LOL Going down again soon to check out possibilities.

NH: when my parents bought their condo in Arizona 30 years ago they'd spend 6 months down there and 6 months up here. they said they could have lived there full time if we all lived down there cause they had AC in their home, car and all the stores, but it does get hot from May to October so best of luck in your move.

or if you can keep your place up here and buy a winter place down there that might be the best of both worlds. my parents would come home usually at the end of April or May once the temps were 100+ for a week in a row and cause my mom wanted to see us and the grandkids, then back to AZ when temps dropped below 40 or rains started up here.

best of luck and hope your health hangs in there.

Thanks DIF! Can't get enough info on AZ!
So far I have gotten rid of so much stuff and some big tools. The swap meet went well, got rid of 75 percent of what I brought ( Big thanks to fellow member Jabberwocky for the use of his truck) this will happen! Just no idea how soon.
Did get a truck. Toyota Tundra, 2004.
Only one project in the shop and I have some guilt thinking about it. It's the 66 Volvo Amazon.
Wanted to help my boy restore it but he may have to figure it out on his own.

Been selling everything! Cleared out a bunch but have lots to figure out.
Stuff like what is my gas welding set up worth?
Does my plasma cutter still work? What is it worth.
Who wants a free parts washer?
Scrap or give away my 5" square metal posts.(12' long)
How in the F can I fit my tools in just the little Craftsman boxes?
.
Got my work cut out for me.

Well we are in Arizona now.
Still in shock at how small the garage is.
540 square feet.
Think it's 105 degrees here. (Marana)
Garage does have A/C!
More to come....

Nonhog, congratulations (condolences?) on the move. I hear it's a dry heat so you can't be uncomfortable. I don't think you ever get used to the heat but after a few years you forget what being cold is like. You have my sympathy on the garage size. I refused to move to a house with a smaller garage than what I had.

Thanks 😊
I think I can make do with the small garage.
My big project days are likely over.
I want a car I can tinker with but not totally redo.
Time will tell.
Still waiting for the moving truck.
Great view from my new garage.
Look on the bright side right?
Dogs love it. (Lizards to chase)

Well I ended up doing something dumb. Bought a Corvair. The classic itch was so strong I bought a project car against my better judgement. I did really like the way the old junker drove. Been taking up 2 stalls for way too long. Hard doing stuff with 1/3 the tools I use to have. Progress is slow, mostly because I am slow. LOL Already bored with it. I need a V8! :)
Not giving up but willing to hire out some of the build. Just too much.

Nonhog, I wasn't a big fan of the Corvair when it first came out but when they added the turbo it changed me into a fan (I had a hopped-up '56 Chevy with a 235 in-line 6 at the time). The '65 model was love at first sight and if we didn't have two children and a large dog, one of them would have followed me home. I see two choices:
  1. Spend a large fortune building a Yenko Stinger, keeping the air-cooled flat six.
    Corvair Yenko 2.jpg
  2. Spend a small fortune building a V8 Corvair. The all-aluminum LS engine makes the most sense.
    Corvair V8.jpg
In either case, the Yenko Stinger look is pretty cool...

Bob, I have always liked the LM body style but always thought I would buy a V8 swapped car. I checked out mine and thought I should pass but having never driven one (57 years old 60 plus cars) I couldn't believe how much I liked driving it. 110 HP auto and it's so light it moves just fine. As much as I like the style I see getting a mainstream V8 after I'm done with the Corvair. I need a car I can wax and do small changes like wheels etc.

Recent pic. Had an issue with new washer as the delivery gorilla broke the water pipe flooding the area and destroying some sheet rock. (my luck! LOL) Hence the mess. I did remove the old kitchen cabinets and will be adding grid walls and some shallow wall cabinets. Designed some receiver mounts for my vice and grinder.

Well, waxing the Cougar would be a waste of time. 20 footer. I will get it safe and reliable and then after a few years of driving it w/o door ding or rock chip concerns maybe we will have it painted? Notice I didn't say I will paint it. Unless I get some relief from shaking (tremor from Parkinson) I'll be a check writer. Which isn't a bad thing. Use to think so. LOL
Might even keep the Corvair?

The sheet rock repair is ongoing but we have approval to have it fixed. (finally) I patched the hole in the living room side of the laundry room because the noise from the washer/dryer running was too much. Shouldn't have had to, but small price to pay.

For now 289. 351 in the future (with any luck 408) its been well used but I think this one is a keeper! Its factory disc brakes and bench seat, which I think is cool!

Views of the garage as of today.
Corvair has most of its needed patch panels done. Found a small batch in the corner of the driver's door. Cougar waiting its turn.
Vise/ grinder mount a neighbor and I made.
Bicycling has been really good for me.
Actually gives me energy to get things done.

@nonhog, Arizona is a better place to strip a car to bare metal than the Pacific Northwest. Good to see you getting your mojo back.

Nice to see your first Hot Rod. A few years ago I searched out a copy of my first car magazine. I was about to turn 12 when I saw this small car magazine (8"x5"). At the time I was customizing plastic car models and the Mercury caught my eye. October 1956 Rodding and Re-styling, published by an Ohio company. The following month I discovered Rod & Custom and never looked back.

Bob, I love Rod and Custom! Wish it was still in print. At one point I subscribed to 8 magazines. That didn't last as it took time away from getting things done. Had about 1200 mags years ago, and I got tired of storing them so I filled the recycle bin a few times. Have a few keepers still. Someday when the cars are done I'll display a few more.
That is a cool mag, never seen one.

Corvair has changed a little!
@nonhog, great to have you back. I'd say the little change is amazing and I like the color. Corvairs didn't come from the factory with that blue as I recall. Even the red ones didn't come with the kind of pop Ford offered.

How are you doing? Is treatment slowing the progression of the Parkinsons? I know you've given up the wrenches, hammers and dollies but have you found something interesting to spend your time on besides the pen and checkbook??

It's a Ford color! Acapulco Blue. Was going to be factory red but I wanted to include my wife and she saw this blue on a 67 Shelby. I shake pretty bad but still do ok with hammers and wrenches. Spreading Bondo is not so good. LOL. Going in for DBS surgery in FEB. Can't wait!

Got a deal at W-M for tires. Mounted 2 w/o tools. Not fun. My friend who is a HS shop teacher mounted the other 2 and balanced all 4. Now if I can stop dragging my feet on the engine O/H.

@nonhog, I wouldn't have thought of the kidney wheels on a Corvair but they really spruce it up. Good call on the tires. Seems like they came off and went back on easily and painlessly a few years decades ago.

Dropped off Corvair parts. Done reinventing the wheel on the HF blast cabinet. Not sure my borrowed compressor is up for the challenge.
I'll revisit the cabinet later. For a free cabinet, it sure is expensive! 😆

Had brain surgery July 17th and went thru hell with the meds. 3 plus weeks of being a couch potato. Back to feeling pretty good. My garage a/c is not cooling well. Probably needs a charge? I'll start a thread on that. The Corvair sits and waits for me to have energy and cooler weather. pics soon.

Just discovered your thread, beautiful cars and nice garage setup.
I love the color of the Corvair, your wheel choice is on spot.

Sorry to hear about your medical issues but great that you are getting better.

I know myself, it sometimes can be frustrating not being able to work in the garage but at the same time it motivates to get well and back on your feet. The most difficult part is to give yourself enough time to get well. (y)
