Hello,

I've been stealing ideas from the GJ forums for a few months and thought I should probably join. Thanks for all the posts and pictures. They have given me ideas and emptied my wallet. I'm looking forward to being a contributor to the forums.

BP: you are in the right place and i already don't have to tell you that your wallet will be emptier and your tool inventory will really grow. great thing is you'll find tools you didn't know existed and the knowledge to use them to make life a bit easier.

any chance you might want to post up a few more bigger pictures of your VW if that is yours in your avitar? or post a few of your favorite things like maybe a couple birds flying by like my avitar just so you know how to post some.

welcome

Here are some of the VWs I have owned. Yes the VW in my avatar [was] my bus, but I sold it about three years ago when I went back to school. I plan to return to the hobby after I graduate, but for now the VW hobby is on hold.

BP: so if your hobbies are photography and VW's i think your pictures covered both of those nicely. very nice looking VW family you have (or had) and i'm sure they will come back again with some hard work.

i was 12 when in 1968 when i used to drive my Dad's 1963 bug around our city's neighborhoods. only thing i didn't like about that car is during the winter the windows never would stay clear unless both fly windows were open.

now i'm almost 60 and still enjoy driving a manual even though i sold my Honda CRV with a stick a couple years ago to buy a Honda Pilot.

any questions so far on about the forum or are you just enjoying the reading and privileges of membership?

I hang in the Vintage tool section mostly, but i do move around to learn about some of the other cool stuff this site has to offer. good luck and maybe see you around.

Pilot....welcome from Ohio! Wow, those are really nice looking VWs. I bought new, and still have, an '82 VW Rabbit Pick Up. Getting ready to sell it. Been sitting for 22 ..... 23 years.

Thanks rburke65. Those Rabbit trucks are a hot commodity right now, especially if you have the diesel version. Of course the recent drop in fuel prices may affect the appeal of diesel in the short-term. Best of luck with your sale. I'm sure it will go to a great home!

Welcome. Love the VWs. Really like the Type 3. it that a '66? I had a 65

So you busted me. All of the cars in these pictures were mine, but the blue squareback. A friend asked me to snap some pictures of his car to prepare it for a sale. After the photoshoot, I couldn't resist snapping some pictures of it on my driveway. It was a gorgeous car and I was a big fan of the european vanity plate.

So to answer your question, I believe it was a 1966, but I don't recall for sure.

drivesitfar: My first memories of cars were driving around Germany in old beetles and busses that my father maintained when we lived in Augsburg. We used to turn wrenches out in the parking lot (we didn't have a garage) and I'm sure I was more of a nuisance to my father (at the age of 8) than a help, but he made me feel special all the same.

You're right about those windshields in inclement weather--they certainly fog up.

BP: thanks for sharing your stories of working on VW's in the driveway. we had a tandem 2 car garage that was always full so any repairs on the '63 bug were also in the driveway and if you haven't heard it does rain quite a bit in Seattle.

have fun reading and learning and teach us what you know or learn because lots of great threads. try to stay away from threads where some members like to argue which tool is better or if the sun will come out that day and i'm sure you'll like it here.

cheers

Hello Buspilot and welcome to the Garage Journal. Love the bugs. My dad had one of those when I was a kid a very long time ago.
