Hello, I'm Eric, I live in Wichita, Ks and I just started trolling this site looking for garage ideas. Getting ready to buy my "dream home" and the plans for the next garage are already started. I'm looking at building a 2 story 40x40 with an upstairs bar and pool hall.

When we bought this house I thought the garage was huge, its a 28x30 and looked big, but once I got everything in it I found out very quickly it wasnt.

Then I started building a mini truck in the garage and found out just how small it really was. With putting the wife's car in the garage and having to clean up everything every night was just a nightmare. I got rid of the couch to make some more room, but now I've got another full size pickup that has to sit in the yard. I'm thinking the next house with have a 3 car attached to store the daily driver and the motorcycles. My 40x40 will be for my projects and bar.

Welcome... not bad digs for a "tiny" space ;) haha. I'd love to have 28x30. My current setup is basically a oversized single car. Lucky for me I work on small cars! However I agree with your design idea of having seperate work/parking spaces. If I were to build something I'd have dedicated attached parking and probably a dedicated detached structure just for a workshop with all the toys.

I wish I could have something that big, yours is 65% larger than mine. Mine can currently fit 2 cars and 3 motorcycles...soon to be 3 cars with a lift.

But hey, if you have the space and funds to go bigger, why the heck not.

Doesn't look too small to me. Mine's only 24x20, so I'm envious of the extra space. My motorcycle and my wife's car sit in the garage, while my car resides on the street. With the mower, shelves, workbench and other miscellanea, there just isn't room.

Of course, they're never big enough. That 40x40 you're hoping to build is already to small for you. You just don't know it yet.

Nice S3, BTW. What are the others? A Guzzi? Is the Suzuki a TS185?

I've got the same size garage.
You know the saying" It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it"

I hope you are joking about a 28x30 being "tiny".

I have built complete cars and trucks more or less frame up in much much smaller than that! My garage is 24x26 and it's not bad at all for working on 1 vehicle and all my tools. Could easily fit several small vehicles though. My truck fits in there just fine too. Dodge 2500 diesel.

Wow....you know your motorcycles! Very good, dead on. The S3 is mine, the Guzzi is my best friends and the TS185 was restored by his 10 year old son.

Of course I'm only slightly kidding about my garage being tiny. The thing is, I have nowhere to store the finished projects. The mini-truck and the wifes car are in the garage, so I want to start the next toy, but theres no room.

Makes sense. My garage is my workshop, not a parking lot. The stuff I drive gets parked outside other than when it's -30* out and there's room in the garage.
