My wife ordered the Garage Deck tiles from Big Floors today.

Our garage size is a bit unusual, it is 23 by 23.

So, instead of worrying about cutting tiles and then trying to get the edging in, we went with the full width of 23 feet but cut the depth down by one foot and ordered the male edging to compensate.

Red border (and edging) with a blue fill area. Was told by Maya at bigfloors.com this morning that we should receive our order here in Washington in 3 business days or so. Hopefully we will see it around Friday.

I would love to get it all installed prior to my trip to go and pick up my Corvette from storage (which is 8 hours away).

I will also try and take some pics while we are working- it will be my son (Daniel Shea) and I doing most of the install. SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) may or may not help - I won't ask her to, but she will probably just jump in anyway.

I am stoked!!

Got the flooring from Big Floors - it is Race Deck's Garage Deck flooring. We went ahead and installed the underlayment and proceeded to install.

We ran into a snag. the Garage I have measures 23 x 23 exactly. When we went to install the border on the right hand side of the garage the tiles extended PAST the base of the floor by about 4-6 inches.

Is there that much variance in the tiles to account for this discrepancy? Was really surprised, to say the least.

Overall, the installation was a snap, literally!!! We got the whole floor done (except the right border) in under 2 hours for a little over 500 square feet. It took longer to get everything out of the garage and then placed back in a neat and orderly fashion. I cut it a little short on the depth to account for the edging, which is good that I did so.

Will post pics up in this post later tonight.

23X23 on the INSIDE? That is an odd size. The flooring is usually pretty precise.

Jim

My wife and I measured in several places, from the concrete (it actually is about an inch up on the walls) and it measured precisely at 23 x 23 on the inside.

You can see in the above picture how it is not quite right, 8 inches and need to trim 4 inches off from each tile.

I think it came out great. Is that the blue they have special overstock price? Looks like a good deal.

Looks like the material you put under a laminate floor.

That is correct - it is foam underlayment for laminate flooring - at 0.29 cents a square foot it is well worth the money. I have heard about the clacking noise, and since I also use the garage as a home gym (the BAS is for my martial arts training) I did not want that sound when I or my wife are working out.

Still trying to figure out why the flooring has to be trimmed even though it is exactly 23 feet. :eyecrazy: Ordered the correct amount (I do need to order two new edge pieces - didn't order enough of those. I ordered two of the female corner pieces and they won't work. I need to order the regular female edge and will still need to trim one of them.

All in all, my wife and I are very happy with the results. Just gotta finish up with the trimming sometime later next week.

I'll take some more pics once we get that done and I get the Corvette into the garage this week Wednesday.

Yep, at $1.75 a square it was worth it. The wife is going to paint a white star in the middle of the floor - a take on the Captain America theme.

I have a friend making a Captain America shield to place on the front of the garage later on.

And yes, I am very patriotic:thumbup:

Looks like there is a slight gap between tiles? If there is a 1/8" gap, over 23' that could account for the 4" difference. Did you measure the tiles to check/verify their true size?

Yes we did measure the tiles - there is a slight gap (read 1/16th) between the tiles, but I was amazed that it would equal 4 inches over that short a distance.
