Noob Vise Help.

Hello everyone. New to the forum and just started looking for a nice heavy duty vise to add to home garage I'm putting together. I work on motorcycles and eventually like to make a little machine shop to restore old motorcycles and work on auto parts. All hobby stuff. Someday I'd like a lathe, drill press, sandblast box, etc. I'm one of those guys that doesn't mind spending extra to get a well built tool that will last, so I've been doing some research for the past few days and it looks like a sealed unit, like the Wiltons, are most likely worth the extra money. I'm a bargain hunter and found this on the web for under $150. Needs a little paint, but overall it looks decent.

Is it worth buying something like this to get started and eventually upgrade to something that's in the $250+ category? Or should I save my pennies and just get something better to start with?

That's NOT a bargain at $150.

Those are cheap generic Chinese vises. I'd guesstimate the value to be closer to $25.

For 100 clams I'd buy the CM Professional vise to tide you over until you find good old USA iron.

Thanks! I did a quick search and didn't find anything using "roughneck vise" as keywords, so I thought maybe it was something old before the dawn of the internet.

I hope you are not serious, if you are you need to spend a little more time researching before you bargain hunt. $150 should get you a nice vise even if you have to turn to ebay. I have seen many wiltons go for $150 including shipping.

Yes, I'm serious. Asking on here before I spend money is research. And look how fast it yielded results. This is a community for people to help each other out isn't it?

That pictured vise is a chinese rebrand. You should be able to find similar NEW ones for about $75 at either HF or Lowes/HD. Continue your search.
