Very useful for drilling out broken off stuff. Not always, but they can "walk" the broken chunk of whatever out if things go right.

I posted the page in the Norseman catalog for the details. It’s a 3 piece quick release impact ready step drill set. It’s on page 129.

Regarding the pricing: the prices are those that I listed. If you want to order any of these sets, the price for the sets are those that I listed.

Hope I answered your questions.

You also need left hand drills to run certain jobs in an old screw machine. They're also fun for screwing with newbies who don't recognize that they're left hand.

As others have mentioned, a left hand drill can be used when attempting to remove a broken fastener. You can center punch the fastener so that you have a starting point. You don’t want to damage the female threads that the broken fastener is in. Now drilling the center of the broken fastener with a normal right hand drill will create a place for your left hand drills to bite. This can be done with the work clamped in vise on a drill press, milling machine or just use a hand drill. Right hand drills are cheap so creating the initial hole with a RH drill makes sense. Left hand drills are more expensive than their RH counterparts, so saving the lefties for the removal attempt would be my recommendation.

If the fastener is not flush then you could make a guide for the drilling operation. You could get a spare indentical bolt/fastener and center drill this on a drill press on hand drill on a work bench. If drilled all the way thru the center, this can now serve as a drilling guide. Thread this into the hole with the broken fastener and it should help keep everything centered up.

Obviously having RH drills is the first priority but at some point you will break a fastener and having LH drills can save you but. An extractor set would also be useful to have just in case.

Hope this helps.

Here was a discussion on garage journal about left hand drilling.

PT typed "LH drills can save you but" I think he meant "LH drills can save your ****"
:)

You got me. I don’t know if I actually wanted to type “LH drills can save your ****. An extractor set would also be useaful to have just in case.”

Or

“LH drills can save you but an extractor set would also be useful to have just in case.”

In the end, both are right. :)
