Can't comment on the treated ones, but Norseman has always been good for me. Watch the Epsteins Day thread, IIRC they were part of last years sale.
As for the comment about 125 price, that's awfully close to what you pay for quality bits....no clue where that came from.

Regarding the price: I bought these at last year's Epsteins 4th of July sale. I think they were on sale for $99. Plus the Norseman extractor set they had on special during the 4th of July sale.

Haven't used the drill bits yet as I have not encountered any projects yet that required drilling through steel.

I guess it depends on where you normally shop for drills. I have a friend whose “good” set is a Ryobi 45 piece set. Works for him, but I know I would get laughed at recommending a Norseman anything set.

Thanks for the reminder on Epstein’s Day! With everything going on, I completely forgot.

I just have this to say..
Cryo treatment does work!

My place of employment purchases cryo treated bits and blades from an industrial supplier. I don't know the costs but I know they're not cheap.
Cryo is not the end-all-be-all. They are a consumable, they do wear out.

I'm not even saying cryo is better than heat treating. My experience is that they are certainly equal.
It's not just a snake oil salesman speal.

I have been using norseman bits for 20 years... a tad pricey but if you are making a living drlling steel rhen rhey are worth it, imo. Having said that I believe tool manufacturers come up with clever **** to seperate you from your money... tin coating cryo bits are that.. watch your speed, lube your drillpoint and sharpen your bits and even mediocre quality bits will last forever...

Thanks for all your input. I've decided to go with this set: Cle-Line C21162 Style 1876 135° High Speed Steel Heavy-Duty Mechanics Length Drill Set, Black and Gold Finish, 1/16" - 1/2" Finish, 29 Pieces

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good cutting oil?

Great set of drills; you will like them.

I like this stuff. It sticks to the drill so you just dip it then go to work.

Bought two sets of these for our shop. Use them daily on stainless steel bodies on emergency vehicles & they work great. Worth every penny you will spend on them.

Good Luck

Drills are like every other quality tool. No matter how many people tell you the expensive stuff really is better, you don't know until you try yourself.

I dont have the cryo ones, but concerning the price, the last set of 'Super premium Mechanic length' Norseman bits i bought from Epsteins, were right around $100, (with the little round screw on top container), so the extra $25 for a 'specialty' set for hardened materials seems pretty reasonable. I havent had any problems with any my Norseman bits and they all regularly get used and abused.

The Applied Science youtube channel did a really interesting video about cryogenic treatments, specifically as it relates to drill bits.

You can watch the video, but basically it helps align the structure of the metal to make it more uniform, kind of like refining the heat treatment. Really interesting stuff. Its a time and energy intensive process, so its pretty expensive to do on an industrial scale.

$125 seems like a reasonable price for a full set of quality bits with cryo treatment. I paid $100 for a 29pc set of Moly drill bits. Any special alloy or treated drill bits beyond basic tool steel ones definitely last longer than regular drill bits as long as you treat them right.
