Hey folks, I’m new to the forum and I’m looking for all the help I can get. I’ll be building a 40x60x16 pole barn in the spring. My biggest hurdle is permitting atm. I’m trying to figure out the most cost effective way to insulate for climate control. There’s so many different opinions. I’m in Orange County NC.

Welcome to the Forum from the shoreline of San Diego Bay.
Not being familiar with your Local Authority Having Jurisdiction, I suggest you call and ask them for an appointment for an Informational Interview, when you show up for your appointment a box of Doughnuts will probably not create any problems.
While the local AHJ will make any specific recommendations they can help steer you from making expensive mistakes.
In my experience I have found that you first need a plan before you apply for a permit, then you build to the plan.
Are you planning on a Workshop or a Showplace.
Workshops generally are less expensive to build, Showplaces can bust your budget.

What is your issue with permitting? I am in western NC, and my build wrapped in in 2022, so not too distant in my memory. It will depend on what you plan to use the building for. I figure you have talked with the county about it.

What questions do you specifically about the insulating and hvac? Again, use is relevant. I just had a mini split installed and in the process of do more insulating, but nothing fancy since I just need to knock off the cold and heat.
