North Star air compressors?

Anyone familiar with North Star air compressors? Looking at a local deal for a #45924J, which is an 80gal vertical with 26 cfm 240v tank. How do these pumps compare with Ingersol Rand compressors? Looks like its a house brand(?) for Northern, but I have never actually seen one in use. Are parts readily available?

I still haven't been by to actually see it in person, but do have a couple pics. Can't tell for sure, but looks like one of the covers is missing for a start/run capacitor.

I think you're right about missing a cap cover

It makes me a little concerned its missing, but its supposedly under power and able to run/pump air.

I would be concerned with "tampering" and why? did the original cap fail & replacement was too big to fit? or is it the right value? etc

Finally had a chance to go look at the compressor today. Story is, it was left when the previous owner moved out...apparently didn't have a way to move it. Current owner has no use for it, and is wanting it out of the way.

It seems to run fine, pumps up to 150psi without too much trouble. Not sure what is going on with the caps, neither one has a cover. The motor starter box, I assume that's what it is, is also missing the cover.

Oddest thing about it, the drain valve must be clogged up as it barely blows any air out (even at 150psi). My only guess is the valve was left open, and something has clogged it up. Tank sounds fine, no soft spots or obvious rust.

We use them exclusively on a product we manufacture.
We use the 5.5hp 20 gallon and 13hp 30 gallon Honda gas units. Have purchased probably 30 in the last 10 years. No issues, except once I had a cracked site glass on shipment, they sent a new one no charge.

Anyone know if the motor starter(?) cover is a standard size? Looks almost like a standard electrical box, but not sure.

I was finally able to get it off the trailer, took a little help from the tractor.

Spoke with Leeson this morning, and was able to get a couple part numbers for the capacitor cover & gasket....now its just a matter of ordering them online. Still have to find a cover for the motor starter/contact box, though.

1480rpm is motoring along pretty good. Still, a 7.5hp motor and tank with the starter is nothing to sneeze at. I believe that pump is an ABAC, which is a Atlas Copco company.

little offtopic...but if you dont need as much air as that thing makes id slow it down. spinning it a little slower will likely make it much quieter, cooler and last longer.

Thats the fun of having a VFD on mine, usually keep it around 650-700RPM but if i really need a lot of air ill crank it up to 900rpm.
