Hi all!

I have spent quite a few hours drewling over all the really fancy garages presented at this forum. Some of them are much bigger than my own house.

Well, this is my beloved hide-out when I want to work with my hands or just relax, having a Bud, planning new alterations on my motorcycle, my son's mopeds or just sort things out. It is not big (10' X 17') but I love spending my time there :)

It is all built by myself and if I had gotten the permission from the authorities it would be twice the size, at least...

It is insulated and heated in order to be comfy even during the winters in southern Sweden.

It all started with a car port built by the former owner of our house...

The local authority (wife) has something to say...

Yeah, I know. It is a bit cluttered, but you have to adapt to survive :)

Cool cozy shop. Looks like 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound package. Keep the wife outta there or you won't get anything done. She appears to be too much of a distraction.
Congrats on a nice shop and wife,
Chip.

My wife says thanks, Chip!

The main problem is not keeping the wife out, it is keeping the darn gardening tools out. I hate lawn movers... :)

...because they require so much space.

Actually, the summers stretch from May - September (if you are lucky) where I live. No polar bears in the streets during that time :)

It is heated by a 1 kW electric heater. You can see it to the far right in the 9th picture from above. More than that would be overkill.

I checked the Winnipeg climate on Wikipedia and my home town Limhamn is warmer, thank God ;).

8x8? No Guinness World Record for me then :)

I really like your "motto" "my wife says that I have never met a tool I havent liked. people on the other hand..." :)

In swedish it would be "Min fru säger att jag aldrig träffat på ett verktyg som jag inte tycker om. Människor å andra sidan..."

Learn this by heart and you will be gold among the swedish girls. Eeeh, maybe you should substitute "min fru" with "min broder" ;)

Nice shop -- that place looks great! You did a wonderful job, and for working on cylces it looks perfect. Heck, my first car garage wasn't much bigger than yours -- and it had a lathe and mill in it as well.

This floor (when seen on a photo) has fooled a lot of people. It is not a real hardwood floor, it is PVC.

The wife is real though...

This is a cool space. As I was opening it I though - maybe he only works on bikes - then I saw the bikes!! Bikes and babes - another one with the addiction!

I did note you have a big backyard - could you not have gone larger? Or did I miss something?

That is a nice sized vise for such a small shop. How about some pics of your tools. Anything not available over here (USA) always draws a lot of attention on this board.

Your English is great, first of all.

Now, you guys drink Bud over there? That's pretty cool.

It's a great use of a small space...too bad many of the European countries do not allow citizens to build the size garage they want.

Oh, what is your opinion of the Finns? I work with a Finnish guy, and he's always telling jokes about Swedes. Is there a rivalry?

Thanks guys!

e-tek; This is the bike I have been working on for the last four years. And no, that is not me, it is the owner of the Ford 31 in the background.

Regarding the backyard; no, the neighbours would not approve a much larger building, maybe a couple of meters (7') but it would require a lot of more work.

Joe B.; So you noticed the vise? :) Yes, it comes handy on a daily basis. I got it for free at work.

A panoramic view of the tools/west side of the workshop;

Any tool you can't find in the USA? I buy new tools, more or less, daily. It is some kind of addiction...

Bull; Yes, I drink Bud occasionally but the brand of my choice is Tuborg (or any Danish beer).

No, no, no, the Swedes are telling jokes about the Finns (and the Norwegians) :bounce:
Seriously; No, the Swedes and the Finns are brothers and there is no real rivalry, except when it comes to ice hockey.

I don't know which I like the best, your shop or your wifes shop attire! Both are cool though. I was also surprised to see that you drink Bud over there when you have all of those European beers.

My wife is 50% danish, so I will not comment that :)

Regarding the beer; I can't say that I drink Bud often but it happens. And yes, there are som very good European beers such as Tuborg, Carlsberg, DAB etc etc. Two of the best beers I have had is a local Austrian beer named Trumer and a Norwegian (believe or not :)) beer I can't remember the name of but it came from the city of Stavanger. Pretty hard to get in the USA I guess? :lol_hitti

What is it that connects beer and garages, anyway? I know there is a connection, but it is hard to pinpoint...:headscrat

I worked in Tromso for a few summer months and it was fantastic. I used to drink Mack beer at 3:00 AM, and there was still daylight (it felt like late afternoon). People would still be out walking and having coffee in sidewalk cafe's. Life is different above the Arctic Circle.

(Although I wouldn't want to be there in the Winter ) BRRRRRRR -- Cold

Tou Pilsner! Sounds familiar

goodfellow; I know how that is. I made my military service very close to the arctic circle and the midnight sun is very special. Not to mention the northern lights in winter, amazing! It may be a bit cold though :shocking:
