So I went to sears today to look for a belt for my edger. Sears didn't have the belt... So I went to look at the tools instead. They had the imapct sockets on sale 50% off. They had a rack full of the newer sets and in the back of them was one lone Made in USA set :) Got those for $44. Then I spotted and older style Tap and Die set. Must have been in the back for years and they recently found it :dunno:. They wanted $199 for it but I found it on the sears website (same part# but the newer style) for $161... They then matched it :D SOOOO did I do alright guys?? I was looking for a tap and die set and guess I was at the right place and right time... HaHaHa so much for the edger belt:p

:thumbup:You did fantastic I bought that same tap & Die set some time back from a retired Mechanic (forgot the price I paid); his set was missing several pieces; I do remember they all came with the laser printing and it comes off rather easy so be careful.

I just bought those impacts, both USA made in sae and metric for the $44 a set, sweet deal. I have the same tap and die set, it was new/used (second hand but never or hardly used) but I won't tell you what I paid for it so as not to make you ill but it was cheap, real cheap. I would say you did great on the impacts and very well on the tap and die set providing you need/use it.

You did well. I too have that T&D set that I got new 15 or 20 years ago. I rember it was fairly expensive, but don't remember the $ amout. It's been a very good set that has worn well and I seldom need a size this set does not have unless I get into larger sizes.

Well, been on the hunt for the rest of the day and couldn't find any standard socket sets... Got one more sears to check out lol. It's funny how an older T&D set like that gets lost in the mix and pops up for sale. I'm sure it will serve me well as long as I treat it well... Taping Fuild :)

Go back to the same stores in a week or so and they'll have USA made ones possibly, not sure if they'll be on sale or not. I bought an import set on sale and I was going to force Sears to exchange the imports for USA made ones (I called the store and they said they had USA ones there, they didn't) but I happened to find the USA ones the next day. Maybe pick up a set of imported ones to exchange.

You should see the confusion on their faces when I ask if they have any more USA made sets in the back LOL!!! When I was leaving one store and they asked me if I found what I was looking for and I told them NO, you didn't have the standard set I wanted. The manager told me yes we do!! I told him... No you don't! I want the USA set in the flimsy packaging. He then told me there was no difference between the new set and old set other than the packaging because it prevented people from stealing... I said ok lol. Another store told me they've been getting a bunch of people coming in asking for USA sets the same as me. Anyways... I'm sure I'll run into one here soon hopefully still for sale. It's just all part of the little adventure I guess

Wow.
12 posts deep and no one has yet called "you ****" on an awesome tool bargain find.

That's a slow day on the G-J

I also have that T&D set. I got it about 7 years ago and have used it a lot. A great set for the money and pretty good quality. I wonder who makes it? Anyone know?

It's actually funny how one good find accidently leads you to another one  This edger was the whole reason I went to sears in the first place hahahaha.... Picked it up at an Estate Sale this past weekend. $20 and its a beast. I got through about 3/4 of my yard until the original belt came apart. Then I figured I would go to sears to look for one... That had nothing in the belt department. Btw... anybody know what decade is this one from:lol:

Thanks, it's cool to use a nice piece of equipment like this that's possibly 10 years older than myself lol... They don't make them like this anymore.

UPDATE! Well after going to 7 Sears in the Houston area... I managed to find only one Made in the USA SAE 1/2 impact set left among hundreds of the new sets :( I also found the 3/8 drive sets both in SAE and Metric. So I snagged those up as well. They too were the only ones I seen out of all those stores. Picked up a much needed hand impact on sale for $22. This has opened my eyes even more on how almost all the craftsman tools in the stores are non US made anymore... If your lucky you'll find some in the clearance bin. These impacts should last me a long time... A real good deal I think :)
