Ugh! My neighbors are annoying. My property is 350' wide x 1050' deep and they are always hollering over the fence in my business.

Can I ever just be left alone doing my own thing? I don't mind the occasional "hey" or even helping out when you need it, but I don't want to talk to you every day. They moved out to the "country" from downtown and are always outside, pestering. The rest of the neighborhood is quiet, but the row of houses next to me were cheap.

I'm half tempted to build a 60x100 barn in the lot between us. :) That would benefit in so many ways.

UGH!!! Ready to move!!! Someone come  with me.

Get a pair of very colorful earphones and just wear them while you are outside. No need to plug them in, just ignore the "hey".

I hate it when my dog parks for me. He never backs in the space, he drives straight in, and often times is between the lines. Listen dog: I painted those lines for a reason!

OP: they're just trying to be friendly. Give them a few months they'll realized it is a wasted effort and stop.

You could try something really radical... Like being friendly to them.

You may even find you like them.

Or you cold just be the neighborhood grumpy old man. Your choice.

Just do something to them that they won't like. I have a neighbor up the road that had to modify his exhaust on his truck, everytime he drives by I hear him. I took my old F250 and put a straight pipe in place of the muffler, she really is obnixous and gurggles. I drive by his house every chance I get and floor it.

I have some weird neighbors in the duplex next door. I only see them outside once every 2 weeks or so. I used to say "hi" but was greeted by a bizarre grunt by her. Her husband is a tad more friendly and actually says hi back. But I stopped saying hi to either. Not like I am looking to have a conversation or anything, sheesh.

The people before them were even ruder. I let them use my trash bin for the week before they got theirs delivered. The husband took the bin over to their side of the duplex. :(

There needs to be balance -- something a little more polite than caveman behaviour but certainly not overly friendly to the point of being a pest.

I have no neighbors. We get along fine.. Well none that I can see from my property anyway. I will say though that the man who owns the property next door is the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He dosn't live there, just keeps his cattle on that property. He owns a body shop in a nearby town and has helped me move my lift from the tractor trailer that delivered it into my shop using one of his ramptrucks. Wouldn't take a dime for it. The next nearest neighbor lives up around the corner & out of sight and let me borrow his pickup with hydraulic tailgate to move my toolboxes from my carport into my shop when my new garage was finished. Southern hospitality is alive & well here in Tennessee. I have to laugh at all the rants on here about issues with a HOA, shitbag neighbors, zoning issues, high tech security systems to keep the dirtbags from stealing your stuff, etc. I purposely chose to live in a place that has none of those things and wouldn't have it any other way. Peace & quiet & having nobody telling me what I can do on my own property is worth more than any big city paycheck.

No, No, No!,

If you are kinda of a 'loner' type of guy, perhaps you should have a little talk with them about that. Look at it from their point of view. They're new there and just trying to be friendly, good neighbors. Would you rather have some loud, noisy idiots next door? This is your issue, not their's.

I can see if they constantly ring your doorbell at all hours but come on now. There is nothing wrong with saying hi when you both are out and about. I'm not the friendliest or most outgoing person but there is nothing wrong with saying hello or spending a minute or two to talk to your neighbor.

It takes a few years but lining the main yard with arborvitaes helps.

What a grumpy guy. They are polite and say, hi to you. Big deal. They could be calling the cops every time you make noise or your dog barks.

Say hi next time you see them. It might improve your attitude.

 Share a beer with them. A nosy neighbor is better than an alarm system!

Jim

Not when they're checking you out for a future burglary. Goes on a lot more than you realize... It's one thing to be nice, another to have a pest that watches you more than minds his own business. Been there, done that.

If that is the case you are well and truly fucked! You can't hide your ****, or when you are not home. Making the bad guys your friend is your best defense in either case.

I tend to believe the best of people when I can.

Isn't so much the neighbors as the people they hang out with. House next door is a rental, I've watched people come and go over the last 30+ years. Kids moved in this last time... I know the owners of the house, live in the next door house that they built long ago (They still own the rental house). I've been told that they're moving shortly... I put up surveillance cameras for the first time in all these years, maybe they'll get the hint...
And, yes, I've been very friendly to them the whole time. Doesn't help...

I suggest putting the building up. Once it's up, they'll think you work on stuff and will be over every time they need their car worked on. :lol_hitti

I had the same problem. They were constantly outside yelling at each other, and calling me over. I wanted nothing to do with them but they just didn't get it.

I found him washing his car in my driveway one night at 11:30 and another time they cut a tree down on their property and dropped it across my driveway, killing one of my new spruce trees on the way down. They drove across my lawn with a half ton and trailer after I asked them not to.... only to get stuck in the back yard and leave huge ruts.

They parked their car across the street from my driveway for 2 weeks, making it impossible for me to get out of my driveway with my truck and trailer. They "lost the keys". Funny how they found them when I told him I could drag it down the street for him with my truck in 4 low ;)

Sure, I could have stayed and outlived them. But life is too short. The best thing I ever did was MOVE AWAY.

Just out talk them with the most mundane obscure conversation you can think of. From I like turtles to your new Uncle Miltons ant farm... Tell them you got the new glow in the dark gel version http://www.yoyo.com/p/uncle-milton-illuminated-ant-farm-gel-colony-137771?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_Y&utm_term=ZTX-012&utm_campaign=Google&CAWELAID=1324466779&utm_content=pla&ci_sku=ZTX-012&ci_gpa=pla&ci_kw={keyword}

Perhaps you could try to get them to join a cult that your forming.

That usually works pretty well, unless they are computer programmers, then you have friends for life. :lol_hitti

To any programmers .. Just kidding.

Or be civil, say hi and try and limit the conversations. Sometimes its not all that easy. I had a neighbor that would watch me work for hours from his house and drop by later for a briefing, asking me why I did certain things. It was kind of creepy ( very?). Especially since I never noticed that I was being watched.

I would go with be civil, say hi but don't engage...

Next time he talks to you, tell him you're into wife swapping and would like to give some "meat" to his wife..:pimpflash

Might work out great especially if his wife is a ****...:pimpflash

Just haul in a couple hundred tons of dirt and pile close to the property line, then use it as a bullet stop for your new shooting range :shoot5:

No, the OP doesn't have anything close to those problems.

Next time they say hi, ask them if they might be interested in a franchise in a multinational, direct sales company that promises huge profits in a comfortable work-from-home environment endorsed by all-American-dad Tom Bosley.

You'll never hear from them again.

This is what I am doing...some neighbors take it a bit too far...

Really, you need to tell me you noticed I unpacked some boxes yesterday? Seriously? Even if you did notice that, you shouldn't MENTION it. I am in the process of surrounding the yard with arborvitaes. Yes, it will take some time, but in the end it will be well worth it.

*he's a nice enough guy, but way to much free time and lives alone. Um...

Ride around on your invisible horse from time to time or,

when you know they're watching place a brick in your yard

and start calling like a dog, " c'mon boy, nice puppy".

I am going to take all of this advice and try it all at separate times.

Thanks for the laughs.
