here's the story:

a few years back, we bought our current lakefront house, and the mother in law liked it so much that she bought the place next door to us when it came up for sale. our yards are seperated by a small stream that is bound on one side by a 4' high concrete retaining wall. it's a bit of a pain walking all the way around to get from one property to the other, so the wife and mother in law asked me to build a bridge. Bieng that I'm a bridge engineer, I couldn't just do it the easy way and make something simple. I had to go nuts and turn it into a big project. here's the 99% product. I still have some trim left to do and some touch up paint, but you get the idea.

oh, and the corner posts were built with the open screens because they have spot lights inside that light up at dusk.

careful, the pics are big.

Maybe rainy days are no mother in law days. I want to know who’s' house are the lights connected or is it one side to each. (LOL)

Nice looking bridge Sundowner, that bridge fits right in. I like the double curve in it just finishes it off.

BTW great looking place to live you have

the bridge is a little slick in the rain and snow, that's part of thereason why the hand rails are there. if she's too crotchety to come over to my house beucase of the rain, then all the better for me. ;)

and I piggy backed off the MiL's low voltage sandscape light trasnformer forhte bridge. she gets to pay Rockland Electric for the mood lighting ;)

the wife and MiL have been on my rear all year to get the bridge done. now that that's out of the way, I'm free to put the same level of effort into my new garage

Wow. I guess if you can engineer and properly construct a bridge like that (two vertical curves and a curve on each side) you shouldn't hve much trouble at all with the straight lumber in a regular garage.

Looks cool!

I'm in the north end of NJ. (it's much nicer than the opening scenes in The Sopranos)

amd yeah, I could have done stairs, but the curved bridge was more fun ;)

You on one side, MIL on the other... Hmmm...

I would have called it a "moat" and put in a draw bridge.

Just kidding. You did an awesome job...it's a work of art...

Did you make it a "toll" bridge ? Looks like 10 cent sign in bridgeright.JPG ?

So you had a moat and a castle wall between you and the mother-in-law and you built a bridge? Ok, what's the punch line, does it blow up or drop her in the alligator infested moat or what?

The joke is that I call it the Bridge of Kazad Dum. the punchline is that a Balrog lives on the other side (you either get that or you don't):)
