Hey guys. Sadly December last year my father lost his battle with Lupus in his lungs, congestive heart failure and diabetes. He was a TOOL GUY. Now I'm starting to go through the several buildings and sheds on the property that house it all. Lots on antique tools, hardware and whatever. My mother, wife and I all went in together on a new house with an acre lot and a new 30x40 steel building that I'll soon be posting the mezzanine build inside I move my stuff into it.

Anyways some years back my mother called me one day to say hi and in the conversation she mentioned how kind of upset she was that my dad had bought a semi trailer and had it pit in the yard for his shop. I had never been in it till today. I snapped a few pictures. As I go through it to clean it out I'll update my cool finds. I have several other "workbench areas on the property with cool things as well.

My mother said that it was laid out pretty nice but it got consumed from all of the great deals he came across. There's so much stuff buried behind things. Little treasures to be found.

Sorry about your pops. The fun you are having going through all that stuff is probably the same fun he had when he found it all at swap meets, estate sales and so on. One word of advice would be rent a little dumpster and get rid of anything you don't think you will use. I know it is easy to get into the mind set of thinking "Maybe someday I will need this brand new air filter from a 92 Chevy" but just toss it or donate it. All the little **** adds up quick and before you know it your new garage will be filled like your dad's buildings. Keep the good stuff and the little things that will make you smile thinking of your dad. Then do what your dad probably wanted to do years ago but never got around to, throw the junk away.

When I was living up in Northwest Iowa without a garage or shop I was going to do the same thing. Refer trailers can be picked up real cheap without the cooling units. I was going to pull on in the yard put a wood stove in one corner and wire up some electrical hookups. I was thinking with a window or two it would be a great shop. It would hold heat pretty well and would give me a long although narrow shop.

Lots of work going through a stash like that. You need to divide it into three piles; trash, sell, and keep. Then you need to go through the sell and keep piles again, kicking anything that doesn't quite meet your now educated criteria down a notch or two.

If you have a lot of stuff in the sell pile try an on site garage sale. Take out an ad in the newspaper and post on Craigslist. Make sure the add says "lots of tools." That will bring the gents out.

Working on my mothers house. Tearing the floor up the 140 year old floor. The joists have rotten and it has fallen. Man what a job but thanks to my pops I have everything I need. Got my wife's uncle helping me out.

I ventured out to the trailer again for some Lag bolts. Took a few more pics. It was dark but my Droid Turbo has a good flash.

Lots of storage cases. Irony in all the organizers, cases and all you still see the mess.

Several hardware drawers. I'll have to take pictures of more when I can.

So far I have found three bands saws, four table saws, four scroll saws, three grinders, a couple miter saws. List goes on.

Sorry for your loss, and it looks like you have a major job there.

When/if you separate things in keep/sell/toss piles, keep some of the stuff that you don't know what it is, and put it in a pile if you're having a garage/estate sale. You'd be surprised at what people are looking for, or know what it is and need it. I've found things at estate sales that the people putting on the sale didn't know what it was, and I was happy to have found it. Then, at the end of the sale, you can pitch the leftovers.
